Morning everyone, just a quick question about food we can and can't eat. I'm craving custard but wasn't sure if I could have it because of eggs and so I went on to Google. I found a booklet specifically for the diet of a pregnant women and it covered a whole range of foods, colour coded red, orange and green to indicate their safety. I have now got myself in a state as I have been eating things in the Red Column! I have been eating cold chicken salads for weeks (pre-packed and bought) thinking I was eating healthily for the baby, but in the booklet it says this type of meat salad "MUST be avoided!!" Shock

Is it scaremongering or are there genuinely lots of foods out there we shouldn't be eating?

I think you need to relax a bit!

The NHS guidelines are a bit more sensible and say "Some other sites (maybe from other countries such as the USA) may suggest that you avoid pre-packed meats in pregnancy but here in the UK we do not."

Why on earth does it say you should avoid cold meat salads?!! Anything pre-packed will be fine. The veg will be washed, the meat will have been through processes that rid it of any nasties, and any mayonnaise will not be the type made with raw eggs.

The best and most sensible advice is on the NHS website. Don't go round looking for other info as you'll just find a mass of contradictions and end up terrified of eating anything.

Fwiw all the risks related to food are pretty minimal anyway. I tried to be careful while pg but still ended up eating a rare steak, dippy eggs, a few sneaky bites of camembert and the odd cheeky glass of wine. My 4mo DD is perfectly healthy.

MMMMMmmmmm Dippy eggs!!
I love boiled egg and soldiers Grin
I've told hubby to get me my custard Smile

I just feel so sick all the time and can't bear the thought of foods I think I could stomach as being up of bounds Smile

Where on earth did you find a book that says you can't eat cold chicken? !?!

Was it "the vegetarians guide to pregnancy"?!
