Hiya, i'll be flying to and from ireland when i'm 30-31weeks; i know i need a letter, but does it have to be from the doc, or can i just ask the midwife to do it? seems silly to get a doc's appointment just for this, esp as midwife knows my condition best. also, do you need to send these letters of permission to the airline prior to flying, or inform them in any way that you are pg, or do you just carry the letter with you in case they question you at the airport?

Depends on the airline - my mw said she'd be happy to write it but I should check policy and it needed to be dr. Should be on the airline's website.

I just carried mine with me and no one even asked for it

Ask the airline ?

I was asked twice for mine but I did do a fair bit of flying mainly short haul . I was asked for it on a longhaul but was 25 weeks I had a letter confirming due date and they sat and worked it out at the desk ... I did offer to tell them .....

I had letters from both for different flights.

I think most airlines are happy with either or, as long as its stamped by your hospital or GP surgery.

If you're flying ryanair you will need to print off their own letter from their website and have that signed and stamp.

Easyjet I just had a hand written note from MW saying my due date, I am fit to fly, her signature, date and GP stamp.

The letter needs to be dated within a week or 2 of flying so check with the airline on that.

Sorry - missed your second question - every time I flew while pregnant I just showed them my letter at either check in desk on the day or at the gate.

Once, when flying at 35 weeks, no one even asked to see it.
