So how many ladies think that giving birth is very painful? Or some women think that other women make it look more painful than what it I'd for instants ( one born every min) obviously its not gonna be pain free but it's interesting to get some ladies reviews :) x

Its so individual and everyone takes pain differently. I personally found it the most painful thing I have ever experienced, my contractions were continuous and didn't give me a break right from being 1cm dialated. They were all in my lower back and bum it was horrible and it was hard to cope with. But there is so much pain releif available at hospital, I had pethidine at 2cm which was amazing but only lasted a couple hours so I had an epidural which helped immensly and if I ever have another child I would choose to have one again as I clearly don't respond to pain well!

It's really difficult to give a definite answer. I had a relatively short labour 7 hours but intense contractions with 3 waves within one contraction & very very little down time in between. I was also pushing for 2hours. It fricking hurt - but then I expected it to really.

TBH many of the ladies on OBEM I always wonder how the hell they look so composed

I think I'm one of the fair few lucky ones because the actual labour didn't hurt, but the contractions did. It was complicated tho, because mw was telling me they weren't contractions. Hmm I got induced twice and it was during the evening that these niggles progressed all the way until 2:30am where mw offered me pethadine because I was sat there thinking to myself if these aren't contractions then I need something lol, then 20 mins later at 2:50 I had dd.

As soon as I had the pethadine I was running back and forth in the room. Went to toilet to be sick and then I got my show. It was when I was on the toilet that she started to come and my waters weren't even broken! lol. So they told me to lay down, broke my waters, and then I just got the urge to push, I was told to stop, but I could only hold off for a short amount of time. I had to have stiches so I'm wondering if that's why they told me to stop. It was like a woah stop. And then afterwards the mw had to get a doc 'cause she didn't know how to stitch me up!! And I'm sure it wasn't done right because 9 years later things still aren't right, but there's nothing that can be done now eh lol.

I am confused NxYxC - surely contractions ARE labour? Confused

TheFantasticFixit · 19/08/2013 11:47

IME, giving birth was absolute fucking hell.

HTH

It depends on how you view it. Childbirth can be a good, positive pain. It's productive, pain for a reason. You hopefully get a lovely healthy adorable 'worth every penny' baby at the end of it.

Unlike stubbing your toe or a man getting kicked in the balls (which I am not comparing childbirth to!) where there are associated negative emotions, of anger, frustration at your own clumsiness etc which add to the mix of physical pain.

I didn't find childbirth painful, I kind of got into it.

For hours I was getting stomach pains aren't those contractions? and by labour I mean the part where you're pushing baby out, lol. I'm confused myself now haha

TallulahBetty · 19/08/2013 12:20

About includes contractions and actually pushing baby out. Well and getting the placenta out too actually.

TallulahBetty · 19/08/2013 12:20

Labour* not about Hmm

Figgygal · 19/08/2013 12:22

It was nowhere near what I thought it'd be it hurt but i wasn't in "pain" If you see what I mean

NxYxC · 19/08/2013 12:25

ah i get you, i don't know why but i always thought of them as two separate things not together as a whole, don't ask, lol. but even then the mw was saying they weren't contractions but they must have been as they got stronger up to the point of giving birth. the whole thing was crazy to be honest 'cause when i was on loo ready to push oh went to find midwife and she was gone! he had to go and find someone to help until she reappeared lol. Hopefully I won't have to go to that hospital again lol.

BearsInMotion · 19/08/2013 12:28

Mamtodsddonway13 · 19/08/2013 14:50

I was in labour for 14 hours an slept for 13.5 of it woke with the urge to push 26 mins later ds arrived, worst part was the contractions b4 pethadine as it was my first scared myself an that made it worse, I'm a baby when it comes to pain :) doing it all again tho.
