Pain in left lower stomach

Hi,
I'm 22+4 weeks pregnant after a lot of hard work to get here so I'm a bit of a worrier.
Over the past week I seem to be getting a heavy ache sort of pain in the left side of my stomach really low down and it feels a bit sensitive to touch below my pubic bone to the left as well. If I sit down and rest it does ease of after a little while but when I'm at work it's awful as I am up and down all day.
Does it sound a normal part of pregnancy? Has anyone else had this so bad they feel they can't walk home after a day at work because of the pain?

Any responses would be appreciated

Thanks
Carla x

Hmm, it sounds a bit like the onset of SPD (google it). Not nice I'm afraid. I had it from 16wks last time but it didn't get really bad until 26wks or so. There are support belts you can wear and if it's very painful then push for a referral to physio. I didn't find physio much help, but my osteopath is great.

On the plus side, it generally goes as soon as the baby is born :)

Sounds lovely :(
How do they diagnose it, I'm seeing a doc tomoro morning but think there going to just say its ligament pain x

Check out the SPD/PGP website - it's quite helpful. You may well get a dismissive response from gp I'm afraid - but push for further investigation. I think diagnosis is just from description of pain and impairment, but you do get those med profs who dismiss it as "mother's pains" Angry
It's caused by the relaxin hormone making things a bit too loose, and especially prone to it with pre existing hip misalignment (as in my case) or joint problems.

Avoid twisting, standing on one leg (which you do more often than you think- sit down to get dressed!) and carrying heavy things like a toddler oh, and definitely don't run!

I've forgotten the agony I was in last time - especially after the birth - and I'm pregnant again now (5wks) and feelings twinges already :(

My midwife isn't great either saw her Tuesday a d she just said oh it's just all stretching but if it gets worse or pain wen passing urine go to doctors.
I work in a children's nursery so picking up babies/toddlers is what I do all day, iv only booked off 3weeks maternity leave before I'm due and I feel like I'm struggling abit already.
Il have a look at that site, thanks.
How did u control the pain or didn't u? Do u just have to bear it! X

Congratulations by the way :)

I can't actually remember! ah the power of Mother Nature to ensure we reproduce again I think I probably took paracetamol occasionally but, yes, other than that I just had to do what I could to minimise it.

If you can afford it, I'd really try to see an osteopath - I'll be paying mine a monthly visit to realign me this time. Also, pregnancy yoga can be helpful, but let them know about the SPD.

I think I saw my gp about it, rather than midwife. Ah, your job isn't ideal for this problem then! Um, can you minimise how much lifting you do? Tbh, if it is SPD (and I'm hoping for you it isn't) you'll have no choice as it'll be too painful to pick them up. Your work have to accommodate it too.
And thanks for the congrats - doesn't seem real yet though the bloating and nausea are real enough!

Oh you poor thing. Have a big virtual hug from me. There may well be a few weeks when you feel glowing yet, try not to worry. It does pass and then you have an actual baby! Can you get away for a few days if you're feeling stressed? Somewhere relaxing? I'm guessing this is your first no such luxury with the second!

Congratulations!

Yer this is my first, I miscarried last October then fell pregnant again in march, on fertility treatment both times.
Hopefully I do have some good weeks I just want the next 18 weeks to hurry I'm so excited to have my baby here.
I was thinking maybe booking couple days of work over next week or so but it's hard together time off x

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that :( at least you know now I guess. See how you get on with physio but I'd really recommend osteopathy if you can stretch to it. Mine is £30 for an hour and def worth it!

It's frustrating and painful, but try to take it easy as much as possible - and def no running after the little ones at work! Running a few steps almost finished me off in my last pg...

Good luck x

I remember it well :( osteopathy is someone who works on joints and muscles (i think!) if you google it for your area then you'll get some suggestions. Could also try for someone who's experienced with SPD.

Gotta run to put ds to bed now, but ask any questions you need to :)

Misty9 · 17/08/2013 18:37

I found mutusystem.com/exercise-for-symphysis-pubis-dysfunction-spd-or-pelvic-girdle-pain-pgp-i-pregnancy-how-exercise-can-help.html and will get around to trying the exercises myself at some point...

Misty9 · 17/08/2013 18:39
