Pregnant women on the beach- "correct" attire?

We are going to South of France end Aug for a final weeks holiday before I'm due in December.

I am usually a total sun queen and love prancing around in my bikinis and getting an all over tan?but at 24 + 3 weeks and fast growing bump I wonder what you ladies honestly think about preggers women on the beach letting it all ?hang out? in bikinis, rather than trying to conceal bump in cossie or tankini? Did you think different before being preggers in a ertain way when you saw pregnant women on the beach than you do now? I also wonder if anyone knows the French feeling towards openly and proudly showing bumps in public as opposed to modestly concealing them?

Thanks!

MrsPat And I bet you look very glamorous too. We should do what makes us comfortable.

PenelopePipPop · 14/08/2013 10:37

Agree with do what makes you comfortable but just FYI had two weeks in France and Italy this summer and French and Italian women definitely wear bikinis when pregnant and in my opinion look very lovely too.

LittlePeaPod · 14/08/2013 10:56

I am getting married abroad in September and I will also be 25 weeks. I will definitely wearing a bikini. I have seen lots of pregnant women wearing bikinis and I think they all looked lovely.

Go for it op, go with the bikini.. Grin

whatever you feel comfortable in :)

re the exposing the baby to sunlight comment...reminds me of when i was preg with ds1, i was at uni, young, toned, tanned, small neat bump and i would wear regular jeans that did up under my.bump and in the hot summer (aug due date) had on short top. anyway one time was out in the sun on campus having lunch and a woman came up to me and told me i should cover my tummy up or the baby would overheat in the amniotic fluid, she said the baby wpuld boil! ha ha ha brought a whole new meaning to 'boil in the bag' i very politely told her i was sure baby was fine and tried not to laugh. Being pregnant is the only time I feel I can pull a bikini off! I'm too skinny the rest of the time, at 35 weeks pregnant I actually have a bum and a cracking. cleavage!

MrsPatMustard · 14/08/2013 11:26

Burbgirl and Mignonette - thank you for your thoughtful words. I think I may well be the world's first pregnant woman to have a morbid fear of baby bumps. Looks likely I'll be spending my third trimester with my eyes tightly closed!

im more concious about my cellulitey thighs than my bump Blush

I bikini'd when I was 6 months pregnant with dd on holiday.

However. Don't do what I did (I completely blame pregnancy brain for this). I spent a long time looking for and bemoaning the fact that there were no maternity bikinis, I complained loudly and vociferously that society was making it unacceptable to get your bump out... Until it dawned on me that perhaps the reason there were no maternity bikinis was because they don't actually have to cover your bump. So you don't need anything special Blush

PenelopePipPop · 14/08/2013 12:00

MrsPatMustard maybe bumps are like babies and you will actually find your own bump acceptable even if other ones make you feel a bit shuddery and weird?

(I do generally like babies, but must admit that when DD was small I actually found other babies a bit, err, repellent, just temporarily you understand. I'm over that now pretty much.)

ROFL @ Humpty! I've filed away that comeback for possible future use, although people around here seem bent on frustrating the witty put-downs I've prepared in advance. I have yet to have anybody asking "Do you know what you are having"? (Answer: a human!)

MrsPatMustard · 14/08/2013 13:17

PenelopePipPop Let's hope so! This is DC#1, so it's all a bit of a learning curve.....

I went on a French beach holiday in June (6 months pregnant) and happily wore a bikini. Even my mum (who is a bit prude) encouraged me to, and joked that a lot of the men on our beach were wearing a lot less with much bigger tummys! Grin

moanymandy · 15/08/2013 19:23

I have just returned from South France at 31 weeks. I went and let it all hang out on the beach! no one seemed to care less to be honest!

I say go for it! Wink

TruJay · 15/08/2013 20:32

Go for it, I wear a bikini every week when taking my son swimming. We recently spent a family day at the beach (in the uk) and I wore my bikini then too, I did have a girl, about 19, say "like u would wear a bikini when you're pregnant" I was surprised at the blatant rudeness of it really but just gave her a stern look and carried on running round and building sandcastles with my hubby and little boy! It hasn't put me off wearing my bikini, why should u hide it!

MummyJetsetter · 15/08/2013 22:16

I just wore the same bikini's as usual when pregnant. I like baby bumps! x

Airfryer · 16/08/2013 08:34

I took my ds to water babies up to me being 39 weeks pregnant and wore a bikini. And I was huuuuggggeeee, covered in stretch marks but didn't care one bit!! Sod what everyone else thinks! :)
