Foetal Pole? Yolk Sac?

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but what do these terms actually refer to?

I have got a reassurance scan on Wednesday (7+4 gestation) and when I have been 'googling' about it the terms foetal pole and yolk sac keep appearing but no real explanation of what they are?

The only sort of explanations I can find are on Wikipedia but it just reads as gooble-de-gook Smile

Can anyone educate a new and clueless first-time-mum-to-be... Smile

Thank you x

The fetal pole is the baby.. It's not referred to a fetus until approx ten weeks or so.
The yolk sac (also known as the Cheerio sign!) is just that.. It's what helps keep the fetal pole going until the placenta takes over.. It will disappear around 12 weeks

Why can't Wikipedia say it so clearly and simply?? Grin
