Possible dumb question but is it safe to use aerosol deodorant when breastfeeding?! I am due my first child in 3.5 weeks and planning to breastfeedbut I think I remember reading somewhere about not using deodorant?

Any advice appreciated!

The issue with deodorant (also applies to scented shower gel, perfume etc) is that it can interfere with your "smell" & your newborn might not like it - some new babies refuse to feed or are fussy & it's down to deodorant or scented toiletries.

Buy non-scented stuff for the first few months (until bf is established) & after that you should be fine.

Thank you, I asked my midwife and she looked at me like I was stupid. Smile

Really? V surprised at that! Oh one other thing to bear in mind for immediately after the birth - if you have a vaginal birth & are physically able to have a shower after, try not to for at least a few hours after your dc is born - this will give you both a chance to bond & for dc to get used to how you smell.
