I got my BFP last tuesday. It was a faint positive after about a minute which hasn't got darker with subsequent tests. I have no symptoms and have convinced myself that its a blighted ovum. Have had a MMC before so don't want to start planning and really get my hopes up to find out at my first scan there's nothing there. Am thinking of going out now and getting one of those Clearblue digital tests that tells you how many weeks have gone since conception as I'm certain of the exact date and this would surely give me an idea if the hormones are strong enough for it to be a viable pregnancy. Am I throwing good money after bad? I can't get to the EPU for another two weeks as I work full time but just feel I need to do something to give me an idea either way.

It is indeed. Me and hubby got married 4 months ago and we had always intended on having a family pretty quick (I'm coming up 30 and he is 31). I was using the Mirena Coil as contraception which I had removed at the end of May and I was told it would probably take 6 months for my endometrium lining to build itself up enough to house a fertilised egg so my and hubby were prepared for the wait. However, as life would have it I got my BFP just over 7 weeks later and it took us both by surprise!! Grin

How unpredictable life can be Smile

As I suspected, small gestational sac but no baby. The sonographer said she could see something - perhaps a small flicker - but that it could just be a maternal pulse (whatever that is!) I have to go back in two weeks to be scanned again but as I'm certain of my dates I don't expect there to be any change. I'm pretty gutted but I really didn't expect any different. I just didn't feel pregnant enough and as much as I know that all pregnancies are different I also know my own body and how I've felt before.

Your dates might be correct but you might have ovulated late, fertilisation might have taken a day or two, implantation can be delayed. Its very early days, everything is tiny, there was a possible heartbeat. Don't give up hope yet.

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 13:20

Thanks Saggy. That's what the sonographer said too. I only DTD once though on day 16 of my cycle so I'm not holding out much hope. Second scan booked for 29th August.

Sperm can live for up to a week, you didnt necessarily conceive on that day. TBH I think that if there was no doubt, they would have said so. I was early scanned at 6+4 and the dates were correct, but there was barely anything to see. a tiny grey line and the merest flicker of a heartbeat. If you are a few days out, making you barely 6 weeks, there will be even less. I know that the next 2 weeks will be limbo, but just muddle through. Nothing is set in stone yet.

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 13:36

I guess I'm trying to play it down so that I'm not so disappointed. Also, when I had MMC the baby measured 6+something (no heartbeat though) and I could see far more on the sonographers screen. Next two weeks are going to be tough.

I totally understand. I had a mc in February. This time around Ive had a scan at 6.4 and 8.4. Both were fine, but I still don't quite believe that Ill get a baby. My next scan is sept 9th. Maybe after that Ill feel more positive...
Its much easier to be positive for others! Confused
Do take a peak at the pg after mc thread in Antenatal groups. Its packed full of people just like us, all holding each other up! Its lovely, and everyone is at a different stage, there are even twins due any day. Its very positive. And a great place to just unburden your fears!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/08/2013 13:47

Oops. The thread is here in the PG forum!

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 14:09

You are so right Saggy. It is so much easier being positive for other people. If I were giving myself advice I'd say everything you have said. Don't give up, they saw something, could be a heartbeat you just don't know until the next scan. Yet if I try and tell myself that I don't believe it one little bit.

I did look for the MC thread in antenatal. That explains why I couldn't find it! Grin

writer how did your scan go? Hope you had good news.

How's it going Writer?

Writerwannabe83 · 14/08/2013 14:21

Hi guys, I have just got back. I was so sad to read your news Poppy, I really hope that when you return you get better news. Try and stay positive, you are still early into the pregnancy (gestation wise) and that 'maternal heartbeat' may indeed turn out to be that of a baby. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thankfully my scan went well, a nice strong heartbeat could be seen and they dated me at 7+3 which is just one day less than what I thought I was. It was very surreal.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/08/2013 14:24

That's great news. Smile

m0nkeynuts · 14/08/2013 14:33

It's still sooooo early poppy! This site shows an ultrasound at 5.5 weeks where the fetal poles can't yet be seen. That's not far off your date, particularly when you take into account that you can't be 100% of implantation date etc.

Don't give up :)

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 14:48

writer that's brilliant news! I'm so pleased for you.

What I saw on the screen was much like that 5.5 week picture m0nkeynuts.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/08/2013 14:51

Well that's good Poppy. That could easily be right for dates if you had delayed ovulation or implantation.

TobyLerone · 14/08/2013 16:10

I'm sorry you didn't have more definite good news, poppy Flowers
Hopefully in 2 weeks' time you'll have much better news.

Excellent news, writer :)

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 19:33

Fingers crossed Toby. It's gonna be a long two weeks!

I would get one. I did a couple of Tesco tests that showed negative, then a clearblue one which said positive and gave me the number of weeks which was reassuring. I think they are worth the money.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 14/08/2013 19:56

Do keep up Xmas! Grin

popocatepetl · 14/08/2013 20:25

Poppy I had the exact same thing at 6 weeks and was sure of my dates. They told me to come back in a week so they could be absolutely sure the pregnancy wasn't viable before they operated/gave me drugs. Went back a week later and was crying before hey even started to scan me, at which point I was told they could see baby's heartbeat! I was a week behind where I thought even though I knew when I'd ovulated and when we'd had sex. Guess the swimmers hung on in there for a few days! Had my dating scan today and all's good so try and hold on to some hope.

justpoppy · 14/08/2013 21:32

Grin @ saggy

popocatepetl congratulations. That's such a lovely story. I pray I'll be telling a similar one in two weeks.
