So i'm 18 weeks with dc4. I already have 3 boys and I'm getting impatient waiting for my anomaly scan which is in 3 weeks.
Don't get me wrong a boy or girl would be lovely but i just want to know. Dh "usnt bothered" and can wait for 3weeks.

I can have a scan for 39 pounds on saturday morning 5 mins drive away. We wont starve if i buy it but we are not rolling in it by any stretch.

I cant decide!!!! Argggh
Can mumsnet decide please?

worley - i beg to disagree with you there.

the very fact that you have to work elsewhere says that the NHS doesn't have the resources to fund you or another sonographer.

Private healthcare is bad for the NHS fullstop.

Anything that allows one person to be better served than another when it comes to health is a bad thing.
there is nothing that can put one person's life above another person's especially when that thing is money.

Each according to his needs not each according to his means.

Unique it's not about the funds for sonographers. The 4d bonding and other private sexing scans are not a medical requirement. if people want to have the extra bonding scans I don't see why the nhs should pay for them. IMO they are a waste of money the majority of the time, unless the baby is in the perfect position and you can get nice views. But they are a fashionable thing to have to have done at the moment.
I purely do them for some extra pocket money for us. No medical advice or information is given out at any of our private scans.

If a 4d scan was needed for something such as a view of a cleft lip then this will be done for the patient to privide them with a visual preperation before birth, but otherwise why should the nhs provide people with extra scans for their enjoyment when no medical reason.

People already treat scans at the hospital as entertainment and we regularly get the jokes from patients that they should have brought popcorn etc.

okay, worley - agree with that.
which is why I don't see why she needs to pay to go private for a sexing scan which might not even be correct a couple of weeks before the one she is entitled to and needs.

I was desperate to know and managed to hold out til the 20 week scan and I took my boys (13&14) with us and they were allowed to pop their head round the door at the end for a quick peek at their sister Grin

It was my sister that talked me out of it and reminded me that between 20 and 40 weeks it is a blooming long wait so if you are going to have a scan you might want to wait and have one at maybe 30 weeks to get to see your baby again... I have done just that, and managed to book a 4d scan through Groupon for £39 to have at 33 weeks which I am really looking forward to now :)

«sits on hand. Fails» No scan will tell you the gender of your child, just their sex.

runs away.

Wait three weeks, it will prolong the excitement!

Mortified - I don't get it Confused

UniqueAndAmazing · 12/08/2013 17:06

RockChick - sex is male or female, gender is traits assigned to a sex, so masculine feminine.
so, cooking is feminine, so if you like cooking, then your gender is described as feminine
if you like beer, then your gender could be described as masculine.

none of these traits can be seen on a scan. Grin
