When do you get that 'butterflies' feeling everyone talks about in the early stages?

Just wondering when you can start feeling your baby move but the fluttering of butterflies that most mums/mums-to-be mention Smile

I never felt anything like butterflies. I felt a distinct little kick for the first time at 18 weeks.

Locketjuice · 08/08/2013 08:30

I did, I think it was about 16 weeks? Currently pregnant with dc2 and def felt like butterflies or little bubbles popping Smile

Pascha · 08/08/2013 08:33

Never felt like butterflies to me either, but the first feelings, like windy bubbles I suppose, were about 18 weeks with my first and 14 weeks with my second. I had to lie down quietly on my back for a while to feel it though.

goodjambadjar · 08/08/2013 08:38

I was 15 weeks, and it was definite kick. She might have been trying to get my attention before that but I didn't know what I was feeling! Grin

Franykins · 08/08/2013 08:54

I felt it at about 13/14 weeks, have since been told I felt it so early as I'm carrying twins Smile

Dusty04 · 08/08/2013 08:58

I'm feeling bubbles or pops now and started at 19+3, on my birthday! It's my first

MissRatty · 08/08/2013 09:07

I had the butterflies/bubbling at 16w, then nothing for a few weeks, which did worry me, but my 20w scan showed I had an anterior placenta, so it may just have been whatever position the baby was in. I'm almost 23w now and can definitely feel kicks, and even see them!

K8eee · 08/08/2013 09:38

Such varied timescales! Shall have to watch how things progress then Smile

I was either close to 20 weeks or just passed 20 weeks when I first felt baby (DD) during my first pregnancy. But the placenta was anterior so all the movements had to make their way through the placenta before I could feel them.

Placenta is anterior again in this pregnancy but I first felt baby at 14 weeks, but I don't feel it as often as I would otherwise

YoniMitchell · 08/08/2013 18:04

How do you know that they're the baby, and not just wind etc? I'm worried I'll miss it! Is it different to the other usual sensations (like ligaments etc.)?

DaleyBump · 08/08/2013 18:08

I never had flutters. First movements I felt very early and felt like gas but without the fart iyswim? 23+5 now and I can tell wriggles from kicks/punches. It changes as the baby gets bigger.

posybunchof · 08/08/2013 18:14

I didn't feel anything til after the 20 week scan, during which they told me I had an anterior placenta. So don't worry if you don't feel anything before then or a bit later.

YoniMitchell · 08/08/2013 18:20

Did you actually know at the time it was the baby, and not gas or anything though? Sorry, I've been getting what feel like gurgles or 'internal farts' (best way to describe them!).

YoniMitchell · 08/08/2013 18:22

Sorry, I sound really thick and like I don't know my body! I really don't feel like I know my body right now! Blush

I'm quite a gassy person (sorry!) and quite in tune with my body, so sometimes I knew straight off that it was the baby but sometimes I would go "that felt like gas but I don't have to fart, it must have been baby."

anotherbitofcake · 09/08/2013 10:34

about 17 weeks but was not 100% sure it wasn't gas! Def helps if you try the lying quietly on your back with knees up and hands firmly on your belly and close your eyes. You may get lucky and feel one or two tiny little kicks - not even kicks - just feelings like wind, but you know it isn't somehow! Now I'm 19.5 wks and am starting to feel them while I'm not concentrating e.g at work. Like little pops I guess. Makes me smile every time.

Leonas · 17/08/2013 14:44

I didn't feel anything (that I knew was the baby) until about 20 weeks. Solent the previous 3/4 weeks freaking out that everyone else felt movement much earlier but now have days where it's like she is having a rave in there! In hindsight, I probably did feel her move before then but didn't realise/ thought it might be wind :)
