I was entertaining my anti natal thread with the advice from a book I found in my loft - thought you guys might find it interesting too!

'So many expectant mothers allow themselves to "go to pieces" during the last few weeks of pregnancy...... try to keep your appearance as pleasing as possible'

'We should be eating liver once a week.'
'We should rest on backs for an hour after the midday meal.'
'Two pints of milk a day'

foods to avoid
*Highly seasoned food such as curries and pickles.
*new bread
*strong tea... never drink tea after it has been brewed for some time. only when fresh.

After each feed we should hold out our babies over a chamber pot...this helps bring up wind.

"Orange juice must be given to baby everyday after the first month as breast milk is lacking in vitamin C"

Enjoy!!!

Hilarious! My uncle (in his late 50's) has no teeth thanks to the orange juice. According to Grandma, she did as she was told and the juice was free!

That reminds me of a cooking book we found it was given to my mother in 1956 for Christmas. One of the recipes was for soup. Instruction 1: buy a can of soup Grin

even in the 80s my mum was drinking a pint of milk a day at my grandma's insistence. she went to the docs in tears cos it was making her feel sick, he just looked at her and said "stop drinking it then" she felt v silly!!
