2nd baby, how late did you leave preparations for their arrival

DC 2 is due in 9 weeks and I have done nothing. Zilch. Please say I'm not alone. I keep reading how people have finished the nursery, got all the bits they need and just packing their hospital bag. Whilst this is DC2, we have moved since DC1 arrived and not much survived the move so we do need to buy a few bits, plus we were lent a lot last time, so we are lacking most if the newborn 'essentials'. I've plenty of funds for getting prepared, yet every time I think I should get organised I think it's too early!
And labour. Totally in denial about that one too.
I can't be the only one who has buried their head in the sand?

I'm with up 31weeks (and DS came at 38weeks) not done anything yet - too bloody busy working, moving house & and looking after a toddler!

Keep on making lists for DH to do instead - it makes me feel organised.

rowtunda · 06/08/2013 09:49

That should have been - I'm with you not up!

I am 39 weeks and started adding my bits to my hospital bag at about 36 weeks (good as I keep remembering stuff that might be useful). I also did some washing and organising of stuff last week (and have only set up moses basket - cot can wait).

Have only started reading about labour in the last week. Don't plan to decorate a nursery, have just moved all the baby's stuff into the spare room. (I have hung up a mobile in it!)

I'd say with 9 weeks to go you have time to be in denial! Was only the birth of a friend's baby, which was due 3 weeks before mine, which span me into panic mode!

Ha ha, I like the idea of making lists for DH to do! My problem is, I'd still be waiting in six months time :)

I'm 37+5 and have washed all the clothes and sorted the Moses basket but only yesterday did I get online to find the instructions to turn the pushchair back into a pram and still need to wash the pram liner, car seat cover etc!
And I haven't packed my bag yet either - think I have a false sense of security as DS1 was a CS at 39+5 after a failed induction!

Yep list for DH lovely idea in theory, but in reality will be a waste of time. I think because I was induced last time at 40+12 I'm not convinced there's any need to think about my due date as a realistic arrival time. Also need to get minor building works done to house, so can't even really think about sorting out the nursery. I have managed to potty train DD so actually I've decided I've done something! I can get back into the sand for another couple of weeks months. Feel better already.

I was also induced last time. It does give you a sort of relaxed feeling about it all doesn't it? I'll be so amazed if I go into labour spontaneously that I think it will overshadow any worry about being disorganised!

DS2 is 5. I still haven't got around to making the curtains I was going to for his bedroom (there are others up but I had bought some nice stripey fabric), taken my bookshelves out of his bedroom, emptied his cupboard of lots of my stuff or painted his room as I had planned GrinBlush

Think I was still assembling bits for him after he arrived (2 weeks early) - I had done my bags for hospital, but figured that as I had a pack or 3 of newborn nappies, some newborn babygrows and a moses basket with bedding, that was enough (and it would have been even better if DH hadn't forgotten to bring that particular bag to the hospital - he was wrapped in a hospital towel to start with until dh had had a chance to pop home and pick it up!)

Hopefully that will make you feel a bit better... and has just reminded me I still need to sort out ds2's room!

I'm 35 wks and still haven't really done anything. Keep meaning to get the baby clothes, pram etc out of the attic to be washed...

It's silly really, as i was 2 weeks early with dc1, and am convinced that ill be early again, but am more focused on trying to get some rest when I can and busy looking after dc1 (nearly 2) at other times.

I think it's good to be more relaxed about the whole thing this time round! Though maybe should at least go out and buy some nappies & freezer food, as I remember all too well how exhausting those first few months are...!

Congrats and good luck to everyone here!
