What is safe for treating insect bites?

Apparently I'm really tasty. I have 3 huge bites on my ankle, they are unbearably itchy and quite swollen. Normally I'd use hydrocortisone cream for a few days till they got better but it says on the tube that I can't use that when pregnant. What can I do, short of cutting my leg off, to stop the itching? Are there any creams that I can use safely which pregnant?

Vinegar: I think any type is fine but I used white wine vinegar as it was to hand. Sorted out a really evil horsefly bite and a couple of mozzie bites too. Hth.

I couldn't find anything to actually treat the bites which was safe, but to take the itch away I used sudocrem and calamine lotion/cream

I had an infected bite a few weeks ago. Doctor told me that topical creams have no effect on bites (which I had noticed from experience). He told me to use cold compresses, which are helping the 3 I currently have on my elbow. I currently feel like I have banged my elbow and my whole arm aches Sad
Was told by some people to use vicks, but that made my bites redder and angrier.
Keep it clean with antiseptic cream. And try not to scratch it (so difficult)
I am going to try sudocreme now.

I've used Boots Bite and Sting relief recently. It's basically ammonia, and it says on the website that its safe during pregnancy and breast feeding.

Best of luck - try not to resort to removing a limb.

I'm with wtfisgoingon vinegar really sorted out some bites, which I think were mosquito.

However an anonymous insect bit me and vinegar made it worse, so I applied a small paste of bicarbonate of soda and that helped (as was alkali). Was amazed it helped so much.

Iced both beforehand too.

I might have to try the vinegar. Will I smell like a potion of chips though?

I had three mosquito bites last year when I was pg. Sound quite similar to yours very swollen etc one was nearly half of my thigh! They were so large I was given antibiotics to treat them might be worth a trip to your doctors.
