Do I need to formally tell/write to my employer to confirm the birth date of my baby?

Hi

Just tried the post this, so sorry if its duplicated elsewhere. I've sent my MATB1 into work and my mat leave is due to start one day before my due date (I'm taking annual leave until then). If the baby comes early, do I need to write to or tell my employer? I've never heard about a form for this, so sorry if I'm being really stupid!!

Thanks for your help

Hi. If your baby does come early you need to let your employers know soon as soon as you are able to because your mat leave will start from that date. They then need to be able to calculate payment and accrued holiday

Just to add I don't think there is any form - a quick email or phone call will do

Thank you! If I was planning on taking accrued leave before maternity leave, when could I be paid for this? My work haven't been very supportive/informative thus far, and only just realised I don't know all this! Thanks again Smilex

Yes, whenever the baby arrives, you'll need to inform your employer so payroll can check smp calculations, etc. Just a quick phone call should be sufficient.

Gonna be honest with you! Don't know much about all this myself. Had a quick chat with my HR department on Friday as it was my last day and they mentioned I need to tell them should baby come early. It's the only thing I can remember from my convo with with them thanks to baby brain! Sorry x

Thanks so much all of you. Ironically, I work in (a different area of) HR but haven't received any advice/info myself! I was so relieved to be finishing work I didn't do enough research, so really appreciate your help! Thank you Smile
