Funny turns

Hi,

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and for the last couple of months I have been having funny turns, more frequent as time has gone on. It turned out I was anaemic so I'm now on iron which has helped lessen the intensity but I still get them all the time and today had a bad one again. Has anyone else had this and found out why?

It's really awful especially when I'm out on my own with my 3 year old.

The funny turns I can only describe as like I imagine a panic attack to be, rapid heart rate, light headed, feel like I'm going to pass out etc.

Thanks in advance for any help. x

Hmmm. I would see your midwife or gp about this if I were you. Have you been well otherwise in this pregnancy?

Do you think they could actually be panic attacks? Do your hands and fingers go numb and tingly?
Hope you get it sorted!

I spoke to HV yesterday and she said to get bloods redone in a couple of weeks. She said it was classic anaemia symptoms. No fingers don't go numb or tingly. I've been to gp about it and had blood test which showed low iron then had blood test again 2 weeks later at 28 wk check and all fine. Been fine other than this. No healthcare professionals seem concerned at all! x

Yep, I had those symptoms before I was diagnosed as anaemic. Not getting them as much now I'm taking iron (when I remember).

I'd find that from nowhere I would suddenly have a really fast heart rate as though I was really stressed or worried.

Yes, I also had this when I was pregnant and anaemic. Keep taking your iron and make sure you've got some vitamin c in your diet to absorb it.

It sounds like you might be having what I have - hypoglycemic moments (run out of blood sugar) carry glucose tablets or a packet of chewy sweeties with you and when you feel one come on cram a few in your mouth. I tend to get them when I'm trying to do too much, or if I've slept through a meal (which happens increasingly often because as I inch towards 20 weeks I am getting so so so so tired). My iron count is very very good incidentally, so not linked with anaemia.

I read the title as 'fanny turns'.
I'll leave now Blush
