When do you tell DC1?

DS is almost 3. I am 10 weeks so we haven't told him about the pregnancy yet - we have talked generally about Katy on Cbeebies and I have picked up a few "new baby" story books which he is interested in.

My feeling is to wait as late as possible to say anything, as otherwise 6 months is a long time for a little person to wait - but how do you deal with other people talking about it? A friend of mine already tried telling her DC about the baby in front of him when I was only about 7 weeks!

We told dd from as soon as we knew though she was only 15 moths when we found out. By the time she was 2, two weeks before dc2 was born, she was totally ready and excited.

We told DS at 12 weeks after the first scan. He was not quite 2.

Our logic was that we'd be talking about it a lot and our families would be talking about it a lot so he'd find out anyway and it was easier to just tell him.

I did say that it was a long time away - first there'd be mummy's birthday, then daddy's, then DS's, then Uncle's, then our holiday, THEN baby would come and stay with us.

We told DD1 (about 16 months) before the 12 week scan and also took her to the scan. Read lots of books about how big sisters are great and she was very excited when picking me and DD2 up from the hospital.

We told our son pretty much straight away as he's very active and always wanting to rough and tumble so we had to let him know that he had to be a bit more careful with mummy.

We got our BFP the day before his 3rd birthday and I let him take the test to his dad to break the news so he knew early on. I can understand people saying its a long time to wait until the baby actually arrives but our son has been fine with it. I'm in week 27 now and he loves kissing my belly and talking to the baby and driving his toy cars over my bump, he's really excited!
