I'm nearly 10 weeks....

have tried eating loads of fruit but that makes no difference.
Bran flakes just give me belly ache and wind.

It's giving me stomach and making me feel even more sick than I already am...

Help!!

Dried Figs
and do some yoga

Beetroot · 10/06/2006 11:35

I used to get it bad and someone said have a bowl of all bran in the morning,. worked a treat. But disgusting

Some 'stool softeners' are very good.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 10/06/2006 11:42

Prune juice worked a treat. Pour a large glass and swallow quickly.

nursetigger6 · 10/06/2006 15:21

Orange juice with lumpy bits maybe??

ProfYaffle · 10/06/2006 15:29

Dried apricots and lots of water, they also have lots of iron so 2 birds with one stone.

PrettyCandles · 10/06/2006 16:03

Drink loads of water (the heat could be dehydrating you) sip all the time if big drinks make you feel uncomfortable. Eat fruit first thing in the morning, and preferably on an empty stomach. Avoid bananas if you can. Eat proper cooked oat porridge. Snack on dried fruit - apricots are particularly nutritious, but all (except bananas) are good for the bowels. Bran can be very irritating, so don't use it if it's upset you more.

Ripe melon for breakfast - lovely and summery and is doing the trick for me like nothing else managed - not even dried figs and apricots!

found this on a website

'Laxatives. Constipation is common in pregnancy and you may need a laxative. At first it is best to try increasing the fibre in your diet and increasing the amount that you drink. If this fails then fibre supplements such as bran, ispagula and sterculia are safe. If you need something stronger, then it is best to discuss this with a doctor. Some laxatives such as docusate and lactulose may be prescribed safely for a short time. '

So have a chat with your doc and he might give you lactulose....which isn't absorbed by the body

Blandmum · 10/06/2006 20:26

Grin

I'm ashamed to know that!

DumbledoresGirl · 10/06/2006 20:27

I had lactulose the whole way through my first and second pregnancies. Was taking iron too and it made me constipated.

LadyTophamHatt · 10/06/2006 20:29

it's one of the weird food/drink things that sounds nice and looks nice in the bottle.

Some strange transformation takes place when pouring from the bottle into the glass.

Will try and force myslef to drink more later.
It says one glass before bed, one glass in the morning on the bottle.

i had to do one the other day as had not been loo for well over a week even after lactolose and fybergel and diet change and reflexology!
my bowels have completely stopped working luckily i have only days to go before baby comes!

Piffle · 11/06/2006 11:50

prune juice, its sweet easy to drink and it works

Piffle · 11/06/2006 11:50

and if you are on ferrous sulphate get off it and on to spatone iron supplement
Brill stuff

Gloworm · 11/06/2006 14:44

I second what piffle says about ferrous sulphate causing constipation, for some unknown reason this is what most iron tablets are made from.

if you use something like Solgar gentle iron, which is not made with ferrous sulphate but made with amino acid chelated iron biglysinate(sp?), it is doesnt upset tummy or cause constipation.
its 25mg iron per tablet, 1 or 2 a day will do most woman during PG.
