what have you spent on pre paring for baby

hello all this is just a general wondering weather its your 1st baby 2nd 3rd 4th etc how much have you spent on buying baby things this is my 3rd and this ones a boy after 2 girls so had to start again anyway i choosen the things i want bought some things already although not finished yet my total is about £1200 this includes pushchair new on sale crib i choose the mothercare deluxe one bouncer playgym swing and other things now i decided what i wanted so accepted the cost just wondered what the average spend was thanks all look foward to the replies :) x

We're buying as much second hand as possible.

So far we've spent:

• £280 - pram and a accessories
• £270 - moses basket, changing mat, bath cradle, monitor, some clothes, bottle steriliser, a couple of toys etc.

Yet to spend:

• c. £120 on pharmacy stuff e.g. toiletries, nappies, breast pump
• c. £170 on other bits of clothes, sheets, blankets, crib

Hoping not to spend more than £1,000. We have been buying different bits each month so to spread the cost though!

HI SeriousStuff yeah thats what were doing spreading the cost im 26 weeks now nearly their think another few months and il be finished you have done well i try to get most in the sale & use discount codes where possible i have bought used and new baby clothing so about the same spend as me looking at your post things ive got left is car seat crib bedding changing bag breastpump (im bf) but wanted to get dh to help out aswell hence that buy furniture for nursery need chest of draws or something so not to bad really have most of it already when are you due SeriousStuff? :) x

150 quid - and that's because I was feeling extravagant so I've bought a couple of new wraps (even though I already have a mei-tai), and special jumper that will go over us both when wearing the carriers, and a second hand baby bjorn bouncer.

I have to buy nappies, and some cheap towels (I prefer cheap towels to muslins)

Clothes are all hand-me-downs (enough for 6 months).

I might buy a travel cot, and I need to get a carseat, but it's likely we'll co-sleep as that worked really well with us for DS1.

I really can't think of anything else I actually needed last time - so we'll have spent about 250-300 by the time he arrives.

I'm 30weeks with second and haven't bought anything yet. The only things I think I need to get are

Buggy board - £60
Baby sling - hopefully borrow off friends if not will be about £90
New born sleep suits (only need if it turns out to be a girl) - £30

Otherwise i hope we have still got everything. Maybe I should be a bit more prepared though!

35wks with DC2 and have spent

£210 on a travel system
£18 on nappies

We saved nearly everything from DD and as she was so big when she was born alot of the NB stuff is spanking new and neutral as we never found out the sex. If this one is a girl then no clothes needed at all, if we have a boy then I'll get to indulge in some retail therapy :)

I'm sure there's loads of stuff we'll have forgotten, but baby is set for at least the first few months, hopefully!!!

all ds's clothes were gender neutral for the first 6 months or so so either way we don't need any clothing. poor dc2

My second, but we'd got rid of the cot, helpfully. I think we may just go IKEA as it has to have been safety tested, and a cot is a cot is a cot.

We're buying bunk beds as I love the house and don't want to move - no way we could afford a 3 bed in this area anyway, and they're small enough to share... after a year of baby in our room, anyway. And I want DS used to the bunk beds way before he has anyone else in them, or he may resent the change.

I'm umming and ahhhing about an Amby hammock. We didn't last time, and DS ended up in bed with me. It was hell and we didn't get him in by himself until 18 months. He's always been a very broken sleeper. So a bed that sways and rocks, as though they are in a sling, sounds pretty wonderful. Sleep is priceless when you've had a baby who never, ever does for any length of time.

I also gave my Hug a Bub wrap away. Still have the Ergo but I don't think it's appropriate for a baby. So I'm looking at one of those wraps that is sort of pre-wrapped as I found the swathes of material for the wrap one a pain. I'll get that second hand, as I doubt they're faked as heavily as Mobys or Ergos so I don't need to worry about toxic dyes or buckles giving way on main roads or anything! I also need a baby kit for the Tripp Trapp, as God only knows where we stashed that.

Otherwise we're good. I think we have everything I want, really. Small babies are comfier in babygrows than anything else - I wouldn't want to sleep in jeans. We never really used the ones we were given. And as DS was reflux and needed changing constantly we have scads of babyclothes. Sheets, same. Toys, books, maternity wear, change table, buggies... don't need anything I can think of.

Oh, and NCT sales (you don't have to be a member) are great, as is Ebay. I work on the basis that new is best for safety (mattress, car seat) or where you want a guarantee (expensive travel system) but otherwise, second hand or IKEA are fine, and in many cases excellent.

DC1 and massively greatful to grandparents for saving us £640 on travel system, carseat and isofix base. We've spent £65 on Moses basket base, baby carrier, nappies and change mat.
Nothing on clothes as all our friends have donated hand me downs - will buy more when we know boy or girl
And £240 ikea for baskets and drawers for baby stuff- and throws and rugs (Nesting)
£40 in baby bathseat and muslins
£20 wipes

I'm 29+1 so due in Oct. I'm happy we've still got some time to go but I do have the fear now and again that the baby will land early and I won't have everything we need!

On baby #5 & #6:

Clothes: £500+
Nursery (furniture, cots, decorating etc.): £1300
Car seats: £800 + p&p.
Beco Gemini Baby Carrier 4-in-1 & another Boba G3: £180

Already have double buggy, BF pillow, swing stuff, bath, blankets etc from when 10m twins were born. I still have dozens and dozens of gdiapers. I'm sure I'll buy more when I start nesting... I'm only 21 weeks...

hiya pettyprudence thats handy i had nothing left from my last dc also the last dc was a girl this is a boy so had to start again lol everyone sounds like their doing great :)

So far we bought a large chest of drawers that is doubling up as a changing station.. we splashed out a bit on it because we don't need a wardrobe (fitted), curtains etc. It is also solid wood/white and oak and hoping it will do until teens.

Have spread all costs weekly so we haven't noticed it really.

We are trying to keep our costs really low so have been buying second hand as well so far we have:

Mind you I have spent a lot of time searching for bargains!

next to nothing tbh. Cousin had a baby year before and went crazy on things like pram and cot for hers , grandmothers and my nannas. Cot at my nannas was still in box as she didn't put it up, hardly had baby and put her in her bed!
My mum bought us travel system. Dad tommee tippee set. Been given loads.
DP parents and grandparents paid for nursery decorated and jumperoo
We bought a video monitor 60 on sale and a bundle clothes for 20. Then odd bits like teddies nice cute things. Oh and a bouncer and swing both for 40 :)
