i was at the hosp today and there was a girl in there about my age (17) with her mum. she was moaning like many about the lack of time keeping in there. she then proceeded to say if i'd have known it was going to take this long i'd have had a fag before i came in. Angry Angry very Angry!

I have also just been told by a friend someone she knows who is pregnant is continuing to smoke cannabis cos she reckons the placenta doesn't take over until 14 weeks and the baby has a different blood supply anyway. grrrrr the stupidity of some people!!

It winds me up that, in order to get into the maternity department at our hospital, we have to walk through a load of smokers who congregate at the front door (the smoking area is just next to it). OK some of them are visitors (who, IMHO, should know better or at least give a damn!) but also some are almost full term Mums. If it was me, I'd be hiding around the corner! A friend passed one woman smoking a fag and on her mobile and heard her say "I'd better go, these contractions are getting stronger!"

makes me mad too

at the entrance to our maternity therre is a soon kindly asking people not to smoke by the doors cos newborn babies will be leaving via them. i came out the other day could smell smoke so instinctively looked round to see where it was coming from and nearly walked into a car cos i wasn't looking where i was going! incidentally it was a group of cleaners around the side of the door. Angry

I know someone who smoked and drank vodka excessively all the way through her pregnancy. Thankfully, her baby was ok. It so bloody selfish. How much of a sacrifice is giving up fags for nine months? I smoked before I had DS, so I know how hard it is to give up, but ffs, it's hardly a life time is it? Angry

I gave up when I found out I was pregnant, I was never a very heavy smoker, and since quiting have realised what an utterly crap thing it is, my partner has also given up and we now hate going into smokey places, how boring of us... hehe

BamboozlesLover · 12/06/2006 14:06

i'll tell you what else i hate. the other day when i came out of the shopping centre i saw 2 mums with their buggies, sitting on the floor and smoking right by their kids.

BamboozlesLover · 12/06/2006 14:08

just to add, i personally think smoking should be banned in all public places and also at the entrances of them. whats the point of banning smoking inside a building to walk outside and have to walk through a load of people smoking. sort of defeats the object of it all!!

emzickle · 12/06/2006 14:08

it's really horrible to watch isn't it, I was in Spain last week and actually watched this woman breast feeding on a sun lounger, fag in one hand, baby in lap, with a large bucket of sangria parked next to her... made my hubby chuckle... but I dont think its funny

BamboozlesLover · 12/06/2006 14:09

people say this would be too hard, but i think over time it would just become accepted. i remember the uproar when smoking was to be first banned in our shopping centre - now no one thinks anything of it. right i've said my piece i'll be quiet now lol.
