Sharp stabbing pain behind belly button

Hi all

Am 27+5 and last night I was having really sharp stabbing pains behind my belly button- like someone was pinching and twisting a nerve/muscle for a couple of seconds. It went on for several hours once every 10-20 mins and I couldn't get to sleep because of it. This morning the area feels sensitive but I've only had one pain.

Is it worth getting checked out? Baby was moving normally throughout in different places so it definitely wasn't the feeling of her kicking.

The problem is my midwife numbers are only Mon-Fri- other than that I only have the number of NHS Direct or the labour ward :-(

Give your labour ward a quick call if pain is still there and you are worried. It does sound like a random muscle spasm or a pulled ligament (like if you cough without holding your tummy in?) so if it eases off through today I wouldn't personally be too worried.

I am 20w with DC2, have a cold and keep pulling tummy muscles when I sneeze or cough so with you on sharp pains. They are however nothing like labour pains - which are really like bad period pains (sorry if you already know this but just thought I'd add if this is your first)

I used to get this - belly button cramp!

I would ring the labour ward & talk it thru.

Hmm it seems to have abated now so will hold off on the call- hopefully it was just a pulled muscle/growing pain. I did do a lot of walking all day a couple of days ago around the park so may have overdone it a bit. Bean is kickboxing me from the inside so seems she is fine anyway!
