Hi there. I was just wonderin if anyone could help me. In February I lost my son at 22 weeks to incompetent cervix and infection although no infection was found, my waters smelt. I then got pregnant this month but I have been bleeding brown and red blood since Monday so I am assumin I am inevitability miscarryin. I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this? Why I have miscarried? If I'll ever be able to carry or have a baby? I am just so scared to try again. Thanks Grace

Hi gracie so sorry to hear of your losses, hope you are being well looked after in RL x

I have no experience of a late loss, but I would think that when you get PG again you will be seen by a consultant who may wish to give you a cervical stitch to stop this happening again....now you know abt the issue I hope it can be treated for future pregnancies.

For your second loss I would say the midwife is almost certainly right, I have had two miscarriages and also have a DS and am 24w PG with my second child...unfortunately miscarriages are very common and don't necessarily mean you won't be able to carry a baby...pregnancy after miscarriage is very tough emotionally so be kind to yourself, best of luck x

Have they confirmed that you have miscarried? Just that I had a lot if bleeding early on and was convinced I had miscarried again but I am now 23 weeks. So just don't want you to assume without getting checked xx

Graciegirl17 · 27/07/2013 10:53

I will have to have a cervical stitch when I get to 12 weeks. There is just so much brown blood and cramps so I just know I have miscarried. The baby was measuring 5 weeks with no fetal heart beat or pole yet and I thought I was 7 weeks so I must have miscarried. I have got a scan on Thursday. Xx

I also have incompetent cervix, it was diagnosed when I lost ds4 at 20 weeks.

I've had 2 early mc at around 6-8 weeks which were unrelated to the ic, we don't know why, the consultant said it was just one of those things.

Ds2&3 were born early due to my waters breaking, which the consultant now says was probably due to my cervix.

Ds5 was born by elcs 6 months ago at 38 weeks. I had a stitch placed at 14 weeks which did it's job and was removed at 35 weeks. My cervix was still going strong when I had the section.

I've had bleeding in pg with ds1,2 and 5, we never found the reason for it.

I'm sorry for your loss xx

Graciegirl17 · 27/07/2013 11:01

Thankyou that gives me hope! So how many healthy children do u have? I just feel sad cuz I have to keep tryin for another so many months and same thing might happen again xxx

I have 4 ds they are 18,10, 2.4 and 6 months. I've had a mc between each one.

It's hard, especially after a late loss. We did think about not trying again after the ic was diagnosed as by that point we did have 3 healthy children but I've had the same consultant since ds2 and I trusted his judgement which helped a lot!

I think 1 in 4 pg ends in early mc so it's more common than you'd think, many of them go on to have healthy children.

You have carried a child past the first trimester, which shows you can! So it might just be a case of having a stitch to deal with the ic next time.

I know that sounds bad written down like that, and it doesn't help much when you know that you still have the risk of late mc or pre term birth xx

Graciegirl17 · 27/07/2013 11:29

No I know what you mean. I think i find it harder cuz I don't have any children but my partner has two. I guess I just have to keep tryin just worry there is sonethin wrong with me to miscarry after preterm birth. Xx

I was lucky, I already had ds1 before any pg complications arose. My pg notes make good reading, I seemed to develop one complication after another. Although as it turned out most were down to the ic.

It's a difficult one, for me the need to have ds2, then ds3 kept me going, also it never entered my head that I would loose a child at 20 weeks. Ds2 was born at 35 weeks, ds3 at 32 so I was thinking maybe 30 weeks or so with ds4, It never entered my head that he'd be born too early to survive..

I think you just have to do what feels right for you, in your own time. I felt that if we were going to try again it would have to be soon as I was 34, although that's not old ds1 was born when I was 16 and I didn't want to still be having children in my 40s.

There are some good threads on conception, ttc after mc or the loss of a child later in pg. I'll link to them tomorrow so you can take a look if you haven't already, I met some really lovely people who really helped me after I lost Jacob and who kept me sane during my last pg! If you have any questions at any point regarding the cervical stitch or if you just feel like talking pm me x

so sorryto hear this Graciegirl17.

if you have been diagnosed with an incompetent surgery then a crevical cerclage might be a good idea for the next pregnancy.

do you know the length of your cervix?

there's a thread over in the ante natal section with a group of us with cerlcages, lots of great success stories, pop across and join us :)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1776448-The-Short-Cervix-Club

i had a stitch at 14 weeks due to very short cervix (less than .5 cm in paces and am now 30 weeks.

best of luck.

The exact same thing happened to me at 22 weeks. I then went on to have two further miscarriages, but earlier at 7 and 9 weeks. I was pretty devastated. I had loads of tests and they couldn't find a reason.

I kept trying, and now have three healthy children aged 6,4 and 2.

Don't give up !

Graciegirl17 · 28/07/2013 18:25
