I have GD and am currently on metformin and insulin.

I just had my insulin dose increased and my readings were brilliant for a few days until DD (16 months) had three shocking nights in a row and u hardly slept.

My fasting readings have been crazy high those days (just measured and had a 6.2)

My question is, can lack of sleep influence your fasting blood glucose levels or do I need to increase my dose again?

I'm speaking to Endo on Monday but just worried about sudden rise. Thanks!

There is something called the dawn phenomenon which means your body starts dumping glucose into your blood in the morning (probably to help us get up and start the day or something, usually your own insulin will deal with it sufficiently).

Its very frustrating, I myself have only just started getting it (30 weeks pg) and have to give myself a correction dose really early in the morning.

Speak to your endo as they are best to help you, you can manipulate your background dose or do a correction dose (or both, as I have) but they are best to advise you.
