What is your baby sleeping in for the first 6 months?

We have a cotbed in the nursery, but can't have it in our room (no space) so need something that will do from birth - 6 months. I'm not keen on spending lots of money for something that will be used for such a short time, so looking for inspiration.
What are other people doing? Cribs, co-sleepers..? I guess a moses basket will only last a short time and some babies don't seem to like them?

We've got a Moses basket on a rocking stand for the first 6 months. I've never heard of a baby not liking them, and they're portable so he can sleep in it downstairs during the day too. This is our first so I'm no expert though!

Babies usually outgrow Moses baskets in 3-4 months. I hired a bednest from the NCT for 6 months and it has been great. A big baby might grow out of that too though!

Downstairs she slept in a Moses basket for the first few months and now she sleeps in her swing chair.

A travel cot with a bassinet. You can get slightly smaller ones if its a squeeze in your bedroom. We're buying a mattress for it too.

Dd 4 months is just outgrowing her Moses basket now so have no choice to put her in ds room as our bedroom is just too small to fit a cot in.

I would never have dreamed of moving pfb into his room until he was 6 months old but with no2 I'm a bit more relaxed

We have a Moses basket which will fit next to our bed. Haven't even bought a cot yet so it better like the basket!

we used a crib for the first few months and had the cot in our room after that as it fitted along the bottom of the bed.

A bednest. But DS was 99% percentile (height and weight) so outgrew it at about 3 months, around the time he went into 6-9m clothes :)

With DD we had a Moses basket. She out grew it at about 4 months so we moved her into the cot bed in her own room then. Resulted in much better sleep for us all. Moses basket was also used for sleeping downstairs in. Now expecting DC2 and, whilst we still have the Moses basket, am considering getting a bedside crib to make nocturnal feeding a bit easier.

Those of you who have moses baskets, do you use a stand? If not, do they just sit on the floor? Am imagining myself treading on the baby..!

A travel cot is a good option too, thanks for that suggestion, Robot.

We used a crib from Kiddicare. It was £40 I think not including the mattress and DS who was 99th centile lasted in it til 6 months.

This time I've borrowed my SIL's crib for DD which is actually longer and as she's on the 75th centile I'm hoping she'll stay in it til 9 months or so.

Have you thought about co-sleeping? I did do that a fair bit too with DS as fairly often sometimes he wouldn't settle back in his crib after his ridiculous number of night feeds.

We only managed to keep DS in his Moses basket for 4 weeks, but he slept with his hands up by his ears and his elbows kept hitting the sides and waking him up!

Ikea have super cheap cots that you could pick up as and when you need?

Currently using a Moses basket on a rocking stand from mothercare. I got it in the sale after Christmas. He's going to be too big for it soon though. He's now 4 months. Not looking forward to him going in his cot in his own room though :(

We've got a Moses basket and stand for when our little one arrives, purely because we won't have a huge amount of space as we'll be in a studio flat for the first few months of its life.

Hopefully it'll be happy in that until we move to a bigger place. If not then we'll probably invest in a travel cot or something similar for the time being...

Oh and if we stick to the Moses basket then I'm definitely going to be using the stand - really don't like the idea of it being on the floor!

It works really well, and obviously you can use it on holiday or as a playpen. Those graco ones fold up fairly well as well.

Yes, it will be on a stand. Other than worrying about treading on the baby, I often drop my phone/book/laptop off the side of the bed if I fall asleep half way through reading etc. so better prop the baby up!

Dd was on the 98th centile for length and stayed in her Moses basket and rocking stand for 5 months at which point she went into her own room and cot. With this one Im hoping they'll stay in for a similar timetable as they'll have to share a room after that.

qe also have a moses basket for down stairs but if this baby is anything as bug as ds then it won't last long!

I know lots of babies who hated Moses baskets.
Having said that we'll hopefully use one until about 8 weeks this time round as its handy to lift up and down stairs. Unless its a very large basket I doubt it'll last until 6 months. A larger crib might or a small cot web if that'll fit.

Putting the baby in it's own room from day one. Possibly in a moses basket but most likely the cot but swaddled so it doesn't feel like it's too big. Mind you he might look very tiny in there in which case I'll borrow the moses basket from someone. can't be bother buying one for 3 months.

I'm assuming you know about the advice to keep the baby in the same room as you for sleeping until the age of 6 months to help protect against SIDS so putting them in their own room would not be advised. It also make night feeds more inconvenient.

We have a bedside cot that ds2 used with a side that drops so effectively co-sleeping. We'll be buying a new mattress for it. Neither of my dc liked their moses basket or sleeping away from me so after a lot of sleep deprivation it just makes sense to co-sleep for us. We'll co-sleep/use bed side cot for at least the first 6 months then see how we go but I doubt baby will be in their own room until they've turned 1. Might be different in this house though as the nursery will be the room opposite ours so a lot closer than in our previous house.

I personally won't be wasting money on a moses basket this time.

Dd hated her moses basket she wouldn't settle in it at all, she sleeps with her arms above her head and legs sort of crossed so kept hitting the sides and waking up everytime she moved. She's been in her cot in our room since about a week old and sleeps much better, I'm glad I didn't spend a lot on a moses basket.

With ds we had a crib that he wouldn't settle in, so ended up co-sleeping. Managed to set the cot up without one side, tied to my side of the bed, and he was in that till he moved to a bed at about 18 mo.

With dd she's been in this homemade co-sleeper since day 1.

I'm looking to get the Troll Nicole glider crib for this baby, I had a moses basket for DD, on a stationary stand but she liked to be rocked, I ahve learnt my lesson for this baby :)
