almost 8 wks, spotting and menstrual-like pain

went for emergency scan this afternoon saw baby heartbeat. was told things are normal for now but cant stop worrying. nurses didnt say reason of spotting ( brown and notjust one or two drops.sorry for details). trying to bedrest after work but startto hv slight menstrual like pain in lower abdomin.... wondering shd i stay home n lie n bed tmr, dun know what i can do to prevent worse happening.. husband n i veryworried..

Try not to worry, you saw a heartbeat & that is a great thing! Really positive, think chances of miscarrying reduce dramatically after heartbeat detected.

At 8 weeks a lot of things are starting to grow & stretch so that can be cause of cramps like pain & brown spotting more than likely implantation bleeding.

If your still really worried tomorrow or if bleeding & cramping get worse then I would phone MW or early pregnancy unit, there's no point in you just sitting at home worrying yourself over it. Please try & relax tho, I'm sure everything will be fine.

Light brown spotting is very normal and is likely implantation bleeding. The cramping is normal too and is probably round ligament pain, which is just your uterus growing. Plus with a heartbeat at eight weeks your chance of miscarriage drops to 1.5%. So try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know!) and congratulations!

Should add the bleeding in eights weeks in particular is normal, as this is when you next period would have been.

Hi brown blood is old blood not fresh so that is a really good sign! I had the worst stretching pains at around 8 weeks they felt just like period pains congratulations on your pregnancy x

thank you ladies!!! feel much better reading this. brownish bleeding stopped but came back after a bit of travel/ commute. told GP what happened and she asks me to leave work and rest at home, she sounds cautious. she said heartbeat was reassuring for now but is referring me to another scan tmr! made me feel scared that i hv to go for another one just one day after i had the emergency scan. so far no further pain in stomach today...

thanks. i rested at home for a week ; spotting (ocurred every morning) decreased from brown to light yellow and got less. not much cramping, felt more like stretching pain. GP asked me to still have a scan tomorrw to check, just now (evening) the brown spotting began again with no prior symptoms, making me and husband worry like hell. really want to find out reason of spotting. praying worse wont happen.
