Shoulder/back/rib pain

I'm 29 weeks and couldn't sleep at all last night due to severe pain across my shoulder blades, tops of shoulders and across my chest (ribs maybe?)

When sitting /standing the shoulder pain is there and iconstant, but if I take a larger breath, bend down or lie down it feels like a bruise running around my ribs and I can't breathe Hmm

I'm knackered from lack of sleep. I'll call the midwife once I'm washed and dressed, but looking for some reassurance that this is 'normal' and also manageable - Dr Google says it'll go when I give birth! It's torture.

Has anyone experienced this?

I had similar a few weeks ago on my left side but I came to the conclusion that I had been sleeping on it funny, it lasted a good week or so. Sorry, no real advice for you but hopefully it is something that will pass

Thank you, it's really good to know that it was something fixable. The midwife thought it may not necessarily be baby-related so I'm trying the GP instead.

Sleeping on my side is not a natural position for me as I like to sleep on my front normally so I think it was a bit awkward for me to start with. I was worried as the pain in my chest was horrible, went right through from my should blade. But I'm sleeping with a pillow for support now and it's eased. I hope you get on ok at the doctors Smile

I had some pain in my lower left ribs for a few weeks (felt like a pulled muscle/trapped nerve), but taking more breasks ot move around at work and sitting more streched out (less slumped) seems to have helped a lot, hopefully you find a simialr easy solution.

Get in touch with your MW, upper quadrant pain can be a little known symptom of Pre Eclampsia.

Thanks FoofFighter, I'll make sure to bring it up. (GP said I will get an appointment today but have to wait til 2pm to make it??) I don't want that worry hanging over me.

I had dreadful shoulder pain for the last ten weeks of pregnancy with DS.
Tried acupuncture and all sorts, nothing eased it.
2 days after giving birth it started to go.
I'd consider a chiropractor if it happened again.
It was 10 x worse than giving birth! Hope yours is only temporary.
