Has anyone else not gained any weight? I am worried. I'm 17wks and at my MW appointment on Wed i hadn't gained any weight. I have a small but growing bump and the last scan at 14 Wks was fine. I'm eating well but not over eating and was just under 9 stone before pregnant. Is this normal? HmmXx

It's quite common to even lose weight in first trimester - I lost half a stone! After that weight gain started slowly, but now at 33+2 I have put on just over half a stone, which is within (but at the lower end of) the recommended amount. Bump is measuring bang on for dates :).

Try not to worry (difficult i know) and be grateful that you won't have so much to lose once baby is here!

If the last scan was fine I would not worry, given how early you are.

I am 30 wks now and have only gained 4 kilos overall so far (have been aiming for more so not due to dieting or anything silly like that). I asked about this at my last appointment but the doctor wasn't fussed since the baby is growing well. (I do wonder though if this could be one reason why I am so. bloody. tired. all the time - baby getting all the nutrients perhaps?)

Yes, at 17 weeks it's entirely normal not to have gained any weight.

thatstoast · 21/07/2013 14:35

Did the midwife comment on it? I'm sure if there was something to worry about it they'd let you know.

I'm 15 weeks and have actually lost 5lbs (not really sure how) but I'm overweight anyway so it's not something I'm worried about although I haven't met with my midwife yet (booked in for 17 weeks). 12 week scan was all fine.

I lost weight in the first tri like Gerty, and am putting it on very slowly now. i am expecting some kind of mammoth growth spurt in the third trimester! Once you start being measured then just go by that--weight isn't a particularly useful metric.

I worked with a woman who lost a stone or two when she first got pregnant! She put it down to stopping drinking. The bump and the no booze cancelled each other out for quite a while iirc.

kalidanger · 21/07/2013 14:38

'or two' might be an exagerration, sorry. It was a lot, and very visible to her colleagues

CheeseFondueRocks · 21/07/2013 14:54

Yes, I think it's the cancelling out that happens a lot.

You give up alcohol, the fatty cheeses, often you eat healthier and/or can't eat much due to morning sickness while at the same time your blood increases, your uterus gets heavier etc, the baby and placenta won't weigh much at this point.

I put on nine pounds in my last pregnancy. Some women just don't gain very much, others gain loads - just one of those weird things. As long as the baby is growing well, I wouldn't worry at all Smile

Thank you for all the feedback. I suppose i was expecting to have put some kind of weight on by now with nearly being half way. Although i am still exercising and have no cravings. I feel reassured anyone so thank you Grinx

Fraggle I have been exactly the same - 57kg at booking in and 57kg a couple of weeks ago at 17 wks, as someone else said I am pretty sure the not boozing was cancelling out the weight gain . Weighed myself today at 19wks and have finally put on a couple of kilos, and certainly I am now changing size much more rapidly. Neither my doctor nor my midwife was concerned with my size or weight.

beckie90 · 21/07/2013 16:38

I lost 1 n half stones with ds2 in first 4 month was 8st 12 at booking, was 7st 5 at my 12wk scan, I gradually put it back on but ended up only 4ib more then my pre preg weight at full term. Each pregnancy is different as is each person. I gained 4st with my first. And now 37+1 with my 3rd and gained about 1st 4 ibs. And that started around week 20. So all have been totally different, don't worry :) x
