Worried First Time Mum To Be

Hoping to hear some experiences from the more experienced mums and the ladies further on or at the same stage in pregnancy as me. I am 16+3 today.

I am worried about my weight or how much weight I should gave gained by now. I am worried that I have not gained any enough weight. I still weigh exactly the same as I did pre-pregancy. Only difference is I don't fit into my old jeans/trousers because I can't fit them round my waist. At my 12 week scan, the consultant said he was happy with the baby's size and amniotic fluid etc. But all my friends and SIL (who is currently 25 weeks pregnant with DC2) keep telling me how they had put at least 6lbs/12lbs on by the time they were 16 weeks. It's seems I am the only one that hasn't put any weight on in my group of friends/family. This is concerning me because worried it my weight could affect the baby. Also starting to worry about the baby's health.

Please could you tell me how your weight progressed through pregnancy particularly the first and second trimester?

Thank you in advance.

I put on hardly any weight until the last 2 months and even then only about 5kg in total over the whole pregnancy (baby was just over 3kg at birth, 10 days late). I never stopped wearing my normal jeans - I think that just depends more on how you carry the baby. Just keep eating healthily and getting checked at your scans, if they have any concerns about the size of your baby, they'll pick it up then.

Hi ladies thank you again. I had my 16 week appointment today (although I am actually 16+4) and spoke to MW. She confirmed alot of what you ladies have said. Not to worry, baby will take everything it needs, baby doesn't start laying fat down till much later in pregnancy, everyone is different and some people only ever put the actual baby, placenta, extra fluid/blood etc. weight on.

She also listened for baby's heart beat which she said was strong.. What a wonderful sound that is. Gosh how canyou love someone you have never met so much. [Smile]. Sorry i must sound very sad!

Between all you wonderful ladies and MW I am starting to feel better.

pod big hugs. Everything is really scary, but as everyone says we're all different.
I've already been booked in for extra scans as my midwife is worried about the baby being small, down to the levels of hormones found in my blood. If your MW was concerned she would have said and she didn't which is brilliant!!
My mum didn't show until 28 weeks - she was a yoga teacher so lots of exercise and a small frame can mean different bumps. I (unfortunately in this case) take after my Dad's side and am already waddling at 16 weeks!
