Grin Me and my fiancé are extra excited about our new addition. This is our first pregnancy and we are nervous. What should I be prepared for ?

How far along are you?

Not being able to sleep way before the baby arrives because you have to pee constantly and can't get comfy in bed. That's what annoyed me the most. Together with morning sickness, constipation and heart burn.

LuckySocks13 · 20/07/2013 14:34

Congratulations :) Take each day as it comes! Each and every baby and family is different. We found the early days exhausting but wouldn't change a thing. Best thing ever and we are now expecting out 2nd 3 years later :)

2weeks. I been drinking a LOT of water lately and wanting to go to sleep ! No morning sickness... Yet! I should say.

Do you mean 4 weeks? 2 weeks would mean your ovulating now. Grin

I'm 21 weeks with my first and I already kinda knew to expect needing to pee a lot and not sleeping, feeling sick, etc. you know the usuals...the one thing I don't think I was expecting is the first time I felt the little guy moving. Not the little flutters that may or may not have been movement but the first actual undeniable movement of baby. It's a wonderful feeling but sooo odd, I'd definitely say it takes some getting used to, I've been feeling him move properly since 18 weeks and it still takes me by surprise sometimes. I love to lay and just feel all the little kicks and changes in position, it's great, but I definitely wasn't prepared, I don't think it's a feeling you could actually describe to somebody to prepare them.

Good luck with everything, and congratulations to you and OH Smile Thanks

Congratulations! I'm 11 weeks with my first and the one thing I did not expect was to feel awful ALL THE TIME from about week 5. Nauseas, exhausted, sick, like a constant hangover. I was totally unprepared (but luckily it is easing now so those people who tell you it will pass are right). Also mega thirst in the first few weeks! Oooh and the crazy food aversions! A few weeks ago just the thought of some foods made me wanna vom - and id want something one day and the next it would disgust me. I think a lot of us end up living on carbs in the first trimester!

Good luck and try to enjoy it Smile
One thing I found really helpful was joining an antenatal thread for people giving birth the same time as me as its so good to have people to chat to who are all at the same stage as you.

Yay! Congratulations to you all!
Do lots of reading online about the week to week development as that'll also mention what you might experience.
Lots of trips to the loo, lots of fun reactions to smells you've never noticed before and being a bit more tired than usual.
If you do get morning sickness don't be afraid to ask for help and do not be fobbed off with the dry cracker/ginger biscuit routine. Keep your fluids up, eat healthy and take your vitamins.
Most of all, enjoy.

Congrats! You will be (in the 1st trimester) knackered, totally co constipated, moody, sicky and totally in shock!
Enjoy ;) xx

ignore the 1st co there, typing laptop problems!

I felt my first at 24 weeks and this one at 20 weeks. Propper kicks now at 22 weeks. DH can't feel yet though. With DS had no morning sickness at all. With this one loads ( it's a girl this time). Tiredness, irritable, needing to wee constantly in the night and more tiredness. It's magical though :)

Kiki2822 · 21/07/2013 01:50

Wow thanks everyone. Can't wait for the movement of my child.. Makes me wanna cry :')

kiki congratulations. Not wanting to sow confusion, but it's also worth expecting that you might not get sickness or sore breasts or indeed other "typical" pregnancy symptoms, either at the "typical" time or at all. For example, one in three people don't experience sickness, but you only really hear of the people who do - I guess because if you aren't suffering it seems unfair to those who are, to boast of your good fortune! This tends to cause a lot of anxiety that something is wrong if the morning sickness and other expected symptoms don't turn up on cue. So worth knowing that every pregnancy is different and you can have a healthily growing baby even if you are not experiencing the symptoms that the week-by-week pregnancy books or Dr Google tell you to expect. (I am 13 weeks and have spent 8 of them fretting over my lack of any major symptoms, but despite not "feeling pregnant" all my first trimester scans - it's an IVF pregnancy so I had extra scans before 12 weeks - have shown a perfectly normal-looking little bean growing nicely.)

I have only just got brave enough to believe in this pregnancy and buy a book, but Professor Lesley Regan's "My pregnancy week by week" was recommended to me and looks very good of its kind. Lots of great images of how the baby is developing each week and information about the physical and emotional changes you can expect to experience and things to think about at each stage.

chillisbopper · 21/07/2013 09:05

Ceara you are so right, that's really good advice Smile, I haven't thrown up once (yet!), but I did feel like I might about a million times so still felt rough enough to not be boastful Grin! Also I worried constantly the first 12 weeks because my symptoms weren't all the ones I'd read about. The scan was reassuring Envy
