Obviously they said this isnt an exact size and baby could be 13oz lighter or heavier after the scan Ii went to daycare and the midwife said they were concerned as my DD1 was 8pounds 2oz and there are no signs to why this baby is so small so they would have to doctor come see me and make a plan.
The doctor came ( who was actually very arrogant took one look and me and said well your belly doesnt look small for dates!) and basically said they would leave me to it but give me a scan on my due date to make sure the baby is ok! There was also a language barrier so the midwife had to keep asking her to clarify things for me and actually said herself to the doctor that she thought it was strange this baby was so small.
I just feel asthough there hasnt been an explanation as to why this baby is so small when my first born was a rather big baby and the doctor was just rushing to get me out the room! :(

Well they say they put on 1lb a week in the last few weeks, so I wouldn't say that is very small.

Was your dd born on or after 40 weeks?

Sleepyfergus · 20/07/2013 11:24

I've never understood how they can estimate the weight of a baby before its born. And I know people who were warned they were going to have v large or v small babies mostly ended up having 'normal' weight babies. I also know friends who had vastly varying sizes of siblings, so because your first was big doesn't necessarily mean your 2nd will be.

If you appear the right size and are measuring correct, I'm fairly sure you're on track. And you have a week and a half to go, if you go on time. You may end up being 2 weeks over, and just think how much bigger a baby will get in 3.5 weeks.

Great that they want to scan you, at least they are monitoring you than not.

Congratulations and hope all goes well....not long now regardless!!

There was well over a pounds difference between my two.

My smallest baby was 5'14oz. My biggest baby just under 8lb. I wouldn't worry too much. Scans at this stage of pregnancy are not reliable.

You dont mention if you are a small or large lady, this will obviously affect the size of the baby.

If the baby is moving regulary. You are eating & drinking well& gaining weight i wouldn't be concerned.

With my baby that was only 5'14oz. I kept saying to the midwife i was concerned about how small i was. I only weighed 1 stone heavier then normal. Didn't gain any weight in last 6 wks of pregnancy. The baby was moving around like a mad thing, to the point she used to wake me constantly during the night.

When she was born, thankfully 10 days early. She was in poor condition. The placenta was breaking down& the doctor's were convinced she was actually over due.

If your concerned go back and demand to see a different doctor.

Best of luck.

My son was born at 38+2 at 5 and a half pounds, and although small he wasn't excessively small. He did just fine and soon grew.
Under 2500g (apx 5.5lbs) is considered underweight so already your baby is in the normal weight category.
Every baby is different. Also don't trust the growth scans too much - mine showed baby as average throughout and then he came out small.

My DS was born exactly 38+5 at 5lb 11oz. He was small and measured so during my pregnancy from 32 wks onwards. I had been monitored closely on CTG and my waters levels (AFI) checked weekly as a result. They induced me for these reasons too at 38+5. They never knew why he was small but in the end born perfectly healthy!

Things will be fine, your LO is probably just small but perfect Smile. Wishing u all the best

I was 5lb 12oz full term. My older brother was well over 7 and a half.

BurnThisDiscoDown · 20/07/2013 16:11

My DS was 6'11 at 41+2, so would probably have been about your little one's size at 38 weeks. I measured big all the way through so it was a bit of a shock! He was fine though, just little.

Thank i suppose im just over worried for no good reason, mt first was 11days overdue which i suppose could be why theres such a difference but my weightgain has been the same this pregnancy and my bmi is still in the normal range
