thrush question (sorry)

Hello ladies,

Just a quick question really, I think I have thrush as I have all the symptoms that go with it.

What I want to know is do I have to go to the doc's to get treatment for this due to me being pregnant or can I just buy the tablet+cream over the counter? ......

You may be better going to the GP. I had thrush while we were ttc and even then you can't have the tablet. I had the cream and if I remember correctly the pessary is ok!? I'd double check though

I went to the doctor about mine recently and she prescribed the cream but not the pessary. The cream on its own has worked fine.

babybump26 is there a reason why I carnt take the tablet? I don't mind the pessary...just taking the tablet is much easier.

I have some cream in my medical box, I have checked the date and its 07/13 which is this month is it okay to use until the end of the month or does it now need thrown away???

I had thrush last week, midwife said ok to use pessary and cream but not oral pill. The pharmacist also confirmed this :)

I don't know the exact reason but in the info it said not to take if ttc, pregnant or breast feeding. I used the cream alone and that was enough in the end. I'm sure yours will be fine to use.

I just pulled this from the NHS website:

If you have thrush and you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you should always visit your GP rather than buying anti-thrush medication over the counter from a pharmacy.
You won't be prescribed oral treatment because it may affect your baby. An anti-thrush pessary, such as clotrimazole, econazole or miconazole will probably be prescribed to be used for at least seven days.
If you're pregnant, take care when inserting a pessary because there's a risk of injuring your cervix (neck of the womb). To reduce the risk, it may be better to insert the pessaries by hand instead of using the applicator.
If you have symptoms around your vulva, such as itching and soreness, you may also be prescribed an anti-thrush cream.

What Bexmatthews said - internal cream or pessary is ok, but don't use the applicator for the pessary, just use your finger to put it in like you would a Lil-let. Oral tablet not used in pregnancy.

Treatment free with prescription in pregnancy though, and the pharmacy won't usually sell it you know if they know you are pregnant. If the cream you have is the external cream it will help ease the discomfort but not shift the actual thrush, IYKWIM

Yeah moaning I know what you mean ......was just going to use the cream over the weekend to soothe the ever annoying itch untill I can see my GP on monday.

07/13 would be fine. Might be best to see GP but creams usually do the trick

Tried to but some caneston in boots this week but they aren't licensed to sell it to pregnant ladies - have to go to GP.

I have had cream, oral tablet and pessaries from doc. My fridge is full of pessaries.
