Shift work and early pregnancy

I am 6.something weeks and work in hospitality. As such, my shifts are erratic. Last night I finished at 11.15pm and due back now at 7am.

I have called in to say I am unwell, vomiting and, well, more (grim). But I feel so so utterly exhausted. By the time I get home and shower its nearly midnight and it takes me another hour to drop off, as the job is 'go.go.go' so I need to unwind afyer the shift. That then gives me five hours of sleep (with 30mins to get ready before leaving the house in the morning).

I.need to do these sorts of back.to backs twice a week.or so.and they are just destroying me Sad yet I cant see how my rota would work.wothout them.

Anyone else do crazy shifts during early pg? How did you cope?

Can you get signed off or onto reduced hours? I don't work shifts but do work a 12+ hour day including a long commute. I'm 11 weeks now, and I struggled through until week nine by which time I was broken! my lovely doctor signed me into reduced hours no problem, for a few weeks.

I feel bad for letting the team down by bit fully pulling my weight, but I just wasn't able to cope with normal long days. The first trimester doesn't last for long and a healthy pregnancy matters most.

Not sure if I could go down to reduced hours - my boss is the kind who would still expect.my full quota of work.in fewer shifts. She is also extremeley unsympathetic so wouldnt send me home if I looked like I wasnt coping.

Atm they dont know im pg but I think I am going to have to tell them soon so I can see about stopping these back to back shifts.

Tell your boss in confidence. He/she would rather have you work different shifts you can manage than have to call in sick at every back to back shift.

Hospitality so definetley exempt from.those regs shame

I think I am going to have to tell her tomorrow. I am the only FTer in my dept so the rotas are hard enough to do as it is Confused

Once you've told her you're pg, she's legally obliged to do a risk assessment. I think this can include if you can't physically manage the shifts you're on.
