Just out of interest - Does a lot of strong Braxton Hicks = early baby?

Hi Just out of interest as there probably isn't an answer to this, but has anyone had a lot of strong Braxton Hicks and delivered early?

By a lot I mean somedays almost all day and so strong I have to stop what I am doing until they pass!

The baby is moving a lot as well and just wondered if all this could trigger things to happen early, e.g. 37 weeks?

Thanks for your replies.

Don't think so. I had no BH with dd1, she was 8 days early then loads from about 35 weeks with dds 2 and 3 both of whom were slightly late!

Piffle · 07/06/2006 09:42

i had bh's from 18 weeks with my 2nd child, she was born at 38 weeks, but with ds (my first) I had bh's from 26 weeks.
I did have very quick easy and dare I say it relatively pain free labours though so think it has some correlation to that at least in my case :)

Marne · 07/06/2006 09:44

Had loads from 24 weeks, dd2 came on her due date.

MerlinsBeard · 07/06/2006 09:46

had lots from v early with ds2. Very strong from about 35 weeks but he was 4 days late - sorry!

Ledodgyherring · 07/06/2006 09:47

Had none at all with dd and she was 3 days early had lots with ds and he was 3 days early too.

beansontoast · 07/06/2006 09:47

not for me.

it does mean a 'lovely strong uterus that knows what its doing though'...quoting my gushy midwife there!

cadbury · 07/06/2006 09:49

not for me. - had very strong bh with both pregnancies but both had to be induced at 40 weeks + 10/11 days

jersey · 07/06/2006 09:54

Thanks, just hoping!!! I'm 33 weeks +5. I have an appointment this afternoon with my midwife anyway so will mention them then.

Just for the record with ds who I had the strong bh with established labour was only 40 mins long compared to 19 hrs with dd (no bh).

nicnack2 · 07/06/2006 09:59

had strong bh with ds2 throught pregancy and he was only 1 day early

damewashalot · 07/06/2006 10:31

No, I had loads for weeks and was 5days late.

tenalady · 07/06/2006 10:36

Not for me, my tiddlypeep took 3 days!

PrettyCandles · 07/06/2006 10:36

Not at all - and it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have a short labour either. I felt no BHs with ds, had a very long pre-labour and an averagely long labour. I had massively strong and frequent BHs with dd, pre-labour was shorter than with ds but still long, and labour itself was also shorter than with ds but of average length. So I don't think that the BHs had any effect and the length of the labour was shorter purely because dd was my second child. Oh, and dd was born at 41w.

Beetle73 · 07/06/2006 22:33

Not for me. I didn't have any at all (that I noticed). DD arrived 3 weeks early with 4.5 hr labour.

hunkermunker · 07/06/2006 22:35

Nope, had them with both DSs from about 18 weeks - DS1 was 10 days late, DS2 was 4 days late.

AllieBongo · 07/06/2006 22:35

nope, both 1 week + late

HarpsichordCarrier · 07/06/2006 22:37

nah, YOU WISH Grin
it means you have lovely strong toned uterine musecles though so that's good news Grin

Hi, thanks for all your messages.

I saw the midwife yesterday for my general check up and she has told me that put together with my bp going up, etc.. its my body telling me I have to slow down. She has advised me to rethink my date for finishing work. Seeing my boss today as due to finish in 3 weeks, but looking at 1 week now if he agrees.

dinosaure · 08/06/2006 16:18

I had a lot with DS3 and was sure he was going to come early, but in fact when I stopped work (at 37 weeks) and relaxed a bit they slackened off a lot and in fact he was born on his due date.
