No bump :(

I'm almost 20 weeks and I still have no obvious bump! I can feel a little firmness under my belly button but it's covered in wobbly fat! I've put on around a stone taking me from 10 stone to 11 stone ish (5ft 8in) so I just feel like a blob! It's all gone to my belly and torso, really strange. I also can't really wear maternity clothes as the bands don't stay up and my regular clothes don't fit either. Sorry for the whinge...I just want people to know I'm pregnant and not just fat! am I being ridiculous?!

:( sorry you're feeling so rubbish. I'm only 10 weeks so no real advice on when to expect bump, but have you thought of using those things that can extend the waistband of your normal clothes? Might be a good solution until you can wear maternity stuff.

Andanotherthing123 · 14/07/2013 11:14

It could be because you're tall and slim that your bump isn't showing much - I'm sure you're being too hard on yourself when you say your tummy is wobbly and fat. Your bump will get 'bumpier' in the not too distant future. In the meantime stick with stretchy waistbands and loose tops.hope you feel better soon!

ZingWidge · 14/07/2013 11:36

tall and slim people don't show as much, especially with DC1.

sorry you feel disappointed, but
a, your baby will grow and your bump will be obvious, even if it takes another few months!

b, you'll be more mobile and flexible all the way through inc birth.

c, you'll look very slim soon after birth ( you biatch Wink Grin )

congrats on baby! Thanks

I feel I am in the same boat as you and found not only did the maternity support bands hold my pants up but gave me a "bump" shape. They're on sale in mothercare at the moment too.

littleducks · 14/07/2013 11:58

I am 26ish weeks and not in maternity clothes, trust me its not as exciting as you hope. I'm wearing maxi dresses which are fairly flattering and cool and comfy.

I have a definite bump when the baby lies certain ways and just a bit of a blobby belly at others when it had moved about. This is dc 3 for me though so I know that it won't be long before there is no room left for baby to move about and I will have a very prominent bump!

Kelly1814 · 14/07/2013 12:34

i'm 5 foot 9 so bit taller than you OP, was 9 stone before pregnant, about 10 stone now - am 28 weeks.

only told work last week and no one had guessed as my bump is so small.

as others have said, this can be a positive! as long as your baby is the right size that's ll that matters, you don't need get fat as a pig/have a huge bump!

purplemurple1 · 14/07/2013 12:36

I'm only 5ft althoguh sadly was also 10st when I got preg, so I'm somewhat fatter than you, at 20 wks I wasn't showing at all and it is really annoying - I just made sure I told everyone that I knew.

I'm now 32 wks been in mat clothes for a couple of weeks and although I think I'm showing the chemist sold me antacids yesterday that can't be taken when preg withohut even asking if I could be preg Confused

On the plus side I have no shortness of breath when mowing the lawn, can run upstairs, get in an out of bed easily etc guess you can't have it all Smile it is tempting to get a 'baby under construction t-shirt' though.

SandraClegane · 14/07/2013 13:30

I've sort of got the opposite problem - I'm an inch shorter than you, started out at a bit under 10st and have gained about 10lbs already. To look at my stomach you'd think I was 6-7months gone; but in fact I'm only just 14w Blush
This is DC3 though!! With DC1, I didn't start showing till well past 20w; this time it was 8w.
I remember starting my pregnancy yoga classes with DC1 and being so jealous of all the lovely bumps on show, and I just looked like I'd had a large lunch. Believe me, the bump will grow soon!!
In the mean time, go for 'under bump' style maternity jeans rather than the ones with the big fabric panels if those are still too big.

PleaseDoNotAdjustYourSet · 14/07/2013 13:49

I'm 5ft 9in and had th opposite problem to you, I showed almost immediately with dc1. Was slim a size 8-10 pre pregnancy, yet had an obvious bump from around 17 weeks.

With dc2 I've piled the weight on and th bump is huge.

Be glad you're slim for as long as possible!

HollyMadison · 14/07/2013 14:09

I think tall people don't show so quickly as the baby has more room to grow before having to move outwards. If you're short like me then baby has only one way to go. Even so, my bump didn't start to show till about 20 weeks. Unlike other bits of me which exploded Hmm.

NomDeClavier · 14/07/2013 14:16

At 5ft7 I didn't show until 7months with DS and then it popped. DC2 and I'm 16 (or poss 17) weeks - I lose track - and my belly is firmer, if I wear tight clothes I have a low bump, but on a day to day basis I just don't look pregnant. It might seem annoying but it is a good thing!

EmB1715 · 14/07/2013 19:05

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm well aware of the benefits, don't worry. I have been getting breathless and have killer heartburn for weeka though. I'm mainly getting fed up of not fitting in any of my clothes and can't afford to buy anymore! I've been handed down plenty of maternity wear though but can't wear it yet! I'll look into other options when our finances settle. Also a little worried about baby as still no word on 20 week scan and next antenatal app needs to be rescheduled. I expect baby is sitting fairly far back though so probably just new mummy worries

You can get littls elastics (I think they are called waist expanders?) to make your normal clothes last a few weeks longer, until maternity fits.

ZingWidge · 14/07/2013 19:13

if you are worried about baby call your MW/hospital and get checked out.

not new mummy worries at all!

crazyhead · 14/07/2013 22:08

There was a tall girl in my NCT group, and I swear it was difficult to believe that she could possibly be carrying a term baby at 40 weeks. Anyway, baby was 8lbs and she looked like a model two weeks postpartum.

That'll be you, lucky woman!

cassell · 14/07/2013 22:13

I didn't have a bump til about 24wks with dc1 and about 20wks with dc2, the mw said I carry babies far back and into the pelvis which is supposed to mean an easier labour and both mine were v quick and managed without pain relief so fingers crossed the same is true for you.

LostMySocks · 14/07/2013 22:30

No one could tell I was pregnant until about 23 weeks when my bump appeared overnight. Im now 28 weeks and it's now growing rapidly. I'm only 5'3" and a bit though so its probably just starting to get squashed so had no option but out.
