Perhaps it will if you are lucky, but often it takes a bit more than the pessary if the baby is not ready to come out yet. I was induced on my due date and the pessary did start things off but I still needed the drip and to have waters broken and it did all take quite a while. However he was my first and perhaps with a third baby it might go much quicker?

I've been induced at 38 weeks and at 41 weeks. Only pessaries both times, but a bit slower for the 38 weeks. Two hours from one cm dilated, as compared to 20 mins at 41.

Took extra pessaries and much longer to get any dilation with my 40 weeker compared to my 42 weekers and I ended up with ARM - but it still worked and no other intervention or assistance required.

Possibly. I was induced at 38 weeks with my first. It did take 4 pessaries over 2 days but labour started immediately after the 4th pessary - was still not dilated at all or even "favourable" when inserted! - but just under an hour and a half later I was holding my baby. Very quick, no time for pain relief. This was 15 years ago though so not sure what they do nowadays with pessaries.

3rd DC was also induced, 3 years ago, with Propess tampon like pessary thing Again very quick labour. 2 weeks over with that one though.
