DP and I use condoms as our only contraception (but are strict about it) as I didn't get on with hormonal contraception.

My periods have changed a few times in the last fifteen years but for the last year (probably longer - I am rubbish at dates, only noticed because it fell over Christmas, which pissed me off at the time!) they have been regular as clockwork in start and duration.

I had a very brief period two weeks ago, literally three days, just under three weeks from the date of my previous one and a week before I was expecting it. I have never had such a light or short period. Additionally had ridiculous moodswings (godawful - at 11am this morning I was crying to myself and seriously considering leaving DP, over nothing at all and we've been together 4 years... I was totally irrational). I've also felt nauseous off and on for the last few weeks but not actually been sick. My previous period was a normal one ending 6.5 weeks ago.

In the negative camp: had no other symptoms and am under a lot of stress at work at the moment, which could explain the period change/lighter flow?

I understand from the NHS website it's too early to test... I guess I'm rubbish at keeping the anxiety to myself.

I will POAS next week but I think I'm looking for you all to reassure me I'm worrying over nothing?

I'd be tempted to do a test now (just a cheapy one) as potentially the lighter period could have been implantation bleeding therefore you would be far enough along now to get a positive test. If that's negative I wouldn't be too concerned about the lighter, shorter period.

My only other thought (although it depends on your age) is that this is exactly how my mum was when she started with menopause, her periods went irregular, lighter, she had a bit of a midlife crisis, and packed in her job Hmm basically her hormones went all a bit haywire.

Hi Rosie. I had the same situation you described; a period after only 3 weeks, but mine was very heavy and without any of my normal cramps. Very weird! I did a couple of tests (made sense at the time) and were negative. However, I did fall pregnant the next month, but we were trying to fall pregnant at the time.

Thank you both. We are not trying to conceive, though it would not be a total nightmare, and I am only mid twenties so hopefully not the menopause. Maybe I should test tomorrow then.

Just so you know, i was still getting negatives for a few days after the implantation bleeding, so do test again to make sure.
