Refusing a sweep

I have refused a sweep next week at my 41 week appt. Reason for this is because I had 5 in one day whilst I was being induced..plus 2 in the previous days and I found them extremely painful. I ended up feeling traumatic about the whole experience to the point where i even started freaking out while having a routine smear test which i know is minor compared to a sweep.
Has anyone else flat out refused sweeps???

Yes, refused them with my second baby. As you said I found them extremely painful (with my first) and they did F A for me. Especially hated that bit where they "pull the cervix forward" in order to do the sweep. My thinking is, if the cervix is still so thick and closed and sits at the back that they have to pull it forward to then try and dig their finger in, then clearly my body isn't ready yet anyway, so why bother!
Got a few funny looks from MW/ consultant when I refused but oh well.

I will be refusing.

They only appear to make a difference if you are about to go into labour anyway so why bother?

i refused.....

reason being i wanted baby to come when he / she was ready.

they also only work if you are close to having baby anyway (and if baby is nearly ready to come im happy to wait) and if not nearly ready then no point.

also risking breaking waters and introducing infection are not risks im happy to take.

I also refuse all Vaginal examinations..... for the same reasons... i dont see any reasons to have fingers stuck up there to see how "close" we are

(i have had 1 VE ever (at 7cm with my first.... 17mins later she was born) so i dont see that they tell anyone anything useful.... all my labours have been very quick!)
