Small head at 20 week scan

Hi, I've just had my 20 week scan, all went really well except she said the head measurements were coming up small so I need to go back at 24 weeks to see how it's measuring up then. The brain seemed ok inside. On the print out I got, there are little size charts and for the head chart, they are all very low, one is at the lowest end of the chart. I'm not panicking as all went really well otherwise and the sonographer didn't seem really worried about it (unless she was being kind!) Just wondered if anyone has experience of this? Thanks

Yes I did, and can relate to the paranoia. One of my DDs head measurements was actually off the scale at the low end on one scan. I called up the midwife who scanned me after in a panic and she said it's sometimes quite hard to get the head measurements right and that it was probably fine (which I felt she could have said before sending me away with the size chart!). The first thing I thought when my baby is born was 'thank god it has a normal sized head'.

Weirdly she has a really big head now. Try not to worry, it's good that you will get another scan to reassure you and check all is OK.

I am facing a disproportionately large tummy for this one!

I had the same, went for 20 week scan and they couldn't see mouth properly so we had to go back the week after so they could have another look and it was then they measured the head and told me it was on the small side. They booked me in a couple of weeks later and a dr scanned and found it and the brain to measure normal.

I think sometimes they can't get a particular angle and they have to air on the side of caution. Funnily enough they said the same thing to my mum when she was carrying me so I was half expecting it!!

I'm sure everything will be fine and congratulations GrinGrinGrinGrin
