NCT Bednest Rental - organic mattress or not?

Has anyone done the 6 month rental from NCT for the Bednest? It seems to work out pretty good value (£125 I think) but there is an option to upgrade (for another £50) to an organic mattress.

Has anyone done this? What is the 'standard' mattress like and is there really a big benefit of organic?

It is slightly cheaper (£99) if you rent directly from Bednest rather than via NCT.

Can't comment on the organic mattress but I am renting and as it's brand new I have no reservations about using the standard one.

Or just buy a second hand one from eBay. The last ones I watched went for 80 pounds and the other went for 110 pounds ...

With the 2nd hand one I would still need to buy a new mattress tho so it may end up more expensive I would imagine and I think they replace the side panels with the rental..

I will check out renting direct from bednest tho, thanks!

I think I read that the organic one was comfier and some babies found the standard one a bit hard but my 5 month old has slept in it beautifully from birth.

I've ordered the 'standard' one with my rental for september. I had no idea to be honest but with most baby stuff i'm pretty much going 'basic' until I find that I need something more (if I ever do).

It's only six months... and the wee one doesn't weigh much so it's not like the matress needs to support a lot of weight/movement for a long time...

How far ahead of your due date have you requested delivery badguider? I am due on 20 Sept and scared of being early and having nowhere for baby to sleep but don't want to start it too soon in case I want to use it for the full 6 months!

I have only ordered mine just under one week before due date but I have a 2nd hand moses basket too and also a strong feeling that I will be late anyway.

I think if I didn't have the moses I'd have ordered it for two weeks before 40 weeks.

If you go into labour early you can probably get your DH to phone them while you're still in hospital and ask for it to come sooner? They do a next day express delivery on most stuff from their shop.

Hi afrikat, sorry if this is an unwanted hijack, but our DS will be ready to move into his big cot by the end of August - feel free to PM me if you're interested in a nearly-new Bednest. We bought it in January (2013) and it's in mint condition - especially since we've been co-sleeping and it's mainly been a very expensive bed rail...

(Also, we ended up with a fancy-pants mattress that a friend gave us, so the one that came with it is still new.)

Hello! Just wondered if anyone had any experience with the new natural coconut coir mattress Bestnest now offers (it's their own version, not the Little Green Sheep version... I guess they brought it out to try to stop everyone buying from LGS!). We got this free with the bednest we bought from JL, but it seems pretty thin. Has anyone used it and if so how did you find it? It seems a lot thinner than the LGS cocount coir mattress so wondering whether it would still be worth getting another one or whether to stick with the one they gave us!

hazeybee · 05/02/2015 15:06

Bumping this thread, as I too would like to know whether the coconut coir mattress 'bednest' own brand mattress is any good. Like Alietta states, it is very thin (measured around 3.5cm depth compared to LGS at 5cm).

I am loathe to buy much more for my baby (I've spent a fortune and my husband doesn't contribute now as he thinks I've gone a little overboard!). Is this just one more thing that I don't need? I then think, well this mattress is non-branded and could have come from anywhere so hasn't been tested and is it worth taking any chances with the risk SIDs etc.?

I can't find anywhere else on the web that mentions it.
