Back rub?

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and suffering from back pain. I would love to get my DP to rub my back for me, but I've heard that you shouldn't get your lower back rubbed while you're pregnant or it could harm the baby. Something to do with your spine...? Anyway, is this true? TIA :)

No!!!!

I've had months of physio during previous pregnancies, where the physiotherapist worked on my back for 30-45 mins,3 times per week.

I think someone might have been teasing You!

I've heard it's okay for a physio or a trained pregnancy masseuse (is that what they're called? Confused) to rub your back but I'm still wary about letting DP do it. Better safe than sorry, and I can't really find anything online about it.

Thats because its totally safe. The physio would work the muscles much harder then an untrained person.

My physio encouraged dp to massage my back as i had such severe pain from about 20 wks until dd was 3 months old.

Thanks for that Shelly :)

Make sure he makes up for not doing it too!
Mine always gets the hump because once he starts I don't want him to stop. It's lovely and will really help OP also when sitting put a small cushion at bottom of back it doesn't half help :)

Hey Futterby

No help here I'm afraid, as I heard the same as you. Would kill for a nice massage from DH but too worried.

Looking forward to some answers for you and me both!

I've heard the dimples at the bottom of your back shouldn't be massaged as it can bring on labour (not that I can find mine, too much chocolate Smile) but otherwise your good to go, get as many back rubs as you can from your OH.

tbh I'm skeptical - they say the same about a point above the ankle, but if it really brought on labour why would they need the drugs for ladies that are overdue?

I'm pretty sure you're fine to have a back rub. I had a pedicure yesterday and made a comment in the salon that I was having it because you can't have a massage when pregnant (I'm 30wks). They told me it's fine to have, they just make you lie on you side for it. It's only in the first trimester that they won't do any treatments

I have LIVED on back rubs from my husband, as well as some pretty hard core physio for my SPD and baby is fine. Im now 36 weeks. You have enough to put up with when you're pregnant, if a back rub helps then get a back rub!
