The smell of my shampoo makes me sick

Hi, I am 4 weeks pregnant and my sense of smell has gone into overdrive. Whilst washing my hair this morning the smell of my shampoo was making me gag. This is my first pregnancy so I'm not sure what to expect andI know that a heightened sense of smell is common, but it was as if the smell had totally changed! Not just stronger. Is anyone else experiencing this?!

When I was pg with my twins, the smell of baked beans made me want throw up, as did the smell of pencils - not good in an infant classroom!

I haven't been able to wear any of my perfumes since being pregnant, it's not that I don't like them but the smell makes me feel sick. I was amazed at what set me off! It should all calm down in time Smile

I have a good sense of smell anyway but when in pregnant its ridiculous!

I hate the smell of certin perfumes/ deodrants,/washing powder. The smell fills my head & the nausea is awful.

I walked into a clothes shop yesterday & i could smell the chemicals on the clothes.

I sniff my dc all the time....it drives me insane as i think my dc stink...my house, dp, bed, car- everything!

We had a puppy when I found out I was pregnant and his little doggy smell just made me want to barf constantly. I could even smell him from another room. Poor dog must have thought I hated him but I was fine after the first trimester.

When I first got pregnant the smell of washing up liquid made me feel sick and still does an I'm now 39+3. My DH says its cos I want to get out of the washing up Grin but the smell really gets to me and I get an awful chemically taste at the back of my throat!

Abbie1234 · 02/07/2013 14:13

I had that chemically taste too! It was awful haha! I even checked for an expiration date on the shampoo bottle as my initial thought was that it had gone bad! Very strangeeee

hi abbie. great name btw Grin

I was the same. it got to the point where I would have to get out of the shower half way through just to throw up.

thankfully at 15 weeks shampoo now smells normal and doesn't send me on a vomiting spree.
