32 weeks and just been in contact with someone with pneumonia. Should I be worried?

Just got home from 32-week growth scan to see that a parcel had been delivered and left with a neighbour while we were out. I saw the parcel outsude neighbours front door (we're in flats). So I knocked on the door to check he didnt mind it waiting there till DH gets home (it's furniture so I can't carry it up the stairs). Anyway, this elderly gentleman looked very unwell so I asked if he was ok and he informed me he was recovering from what doctors think is pneumonia. I was chatting to him for 5-10 mins and made my way upstairs when it dawned on me that pneumonia might be contagious. Do I need to be worried?

Unless you snogged him or he coughed all over you. I doubt it. If you are worried ring your surgery

I can confirm there was no snogging!

Pretty sure pneumonia isn't contagious. It's just a chest infection.

Sorry, typing on my iPod and hit post by accident!

There's different types of pneumonia but if he's well enough to be home I would guess its not a very serious strain. I had a very rare, contagious strain when I was 16 (caught it from my mum and they don't know where she got it from) and I was in hospital in isolation for a week. Generally antibiotics will clear it up. Phone your gp to reassure you but my guess would be unless they know exactly what strain he has they'll tell you not to worry.

Thanks mrssmith. He was in hospital on oxygen but is at home now. I think he must be past the contagious stage if it was a contagious type
