Anyone else in their second pregnancy developed piles or am I the only one? I didn't get them first time round so I don't know if I should be mentioning it to mw or doctor.

Poor you - I sympathize! I had them first time later on, but have them already Angry and am only 13 weeks. They come and go, not all the time, but I know they'll be a lot worse in late pregnancy...ugh. The most important thing you can do is be careful not to strain - eat plenty of fibre, drink water, and if thats not enough you can take Lactulose (doesn't enter the system, very gentle) which my gp prescribed last time. Also (TMI coming up) if you have external piles (ie sticking out ones, feel like grapes or peas) my gp said to gently push them back in whilst in the shower....Blush
I do remember various creams and supps being ok too, but can't remember which..anybody else know?
As you can tell, I'm a pile veteran...Sad

Are you eating enough fruit and veg, and drinking enough? I got them this time, but since I started my regime of about 10 carrots, 4 apples & 4 nectarines on top of my normal fruit and veg (probably eat a good 5 portions a day anyway), I haven't had any problems at all. I'm also making a concious effort to drink lots - but it has to be things I like, so at the moment I'm guzzling pints of lime juice with soda water.

biglips · 03/06/2006 10:09

i had them in my 1st pg as i was 38 weeks pg, was in agony and scared incase i gave birth.

i drank 5 pints of pure orange juice and prunes (no stones) all mixed in a mixer and drank the lot whilst i was on the loo - i couldnt move either!!! Blush

Elibean · 03/06/2006 14:27

Biglips, 5 pints?!? Respect!

Just an additional bit of info: tendency to piles, like varicose veins, has a big genetic component. You either tend to get 'em, or you don't Envy

biglips · 03/06/2006 17:29

yes 5 pints and it works after 20 mins!! phew!!

Tommy · 03/06/2006 17:42

feel for you Sad
didn't get them with first pregnancy but did with number 2 (or not, if you will excuse the toilet humour pun Grin)
5 pints of OJ would have given my cystitus (grim with the piles I would imagine).
I took Lactulose which GP gave me on prescription - as well as doing all the healthy eating thing as well.
Good luck Smile

expatinscotland · 03/06/2006 18:43

the bad news: they may not go away after pregnancy.

Sad
Elibean · 03/06/2006 21:35

True. Though not as bad.

biglips · 05/06/2006 09:43

its true as i was in so much agony i couldnt taste the drink as its was far beyond me..... later docs gave me Lactulose and i took it everyday for 3 weeks and gradually its went

After i was better..i drank the last bit of the drink and its tasted not nice

pucca · 25/06/2006 10:49

I have just got them at 32 weeks, killing me! funnily enough i didn't get them first time around but have this time, horrible horrible things!
Does anyone know if you can use anusol etc while pregnant?

sugarfree · 25/06/2006 11:00

I did Pucca.

sarahlou1uk · 25/06/2006 14:30

Thanks for all advice. Pucca, sorry you're suffering as well. Mine seem to have periods where they hurt like hell and then they go away for a week. Feels like when I sit on the toilet everything is hanging down (sorry if tmi!)
