I updated my anxiety thread but thought I would start a new thread asking for specific advice.
After a bfp last weekend that was fairly dark I now have a negative this morning on a frer. I'm pretty sure this is a chemical/early loss as my symptoms have all but gone. I'm miserable and wondering what to expect. Do I need to see a doctor? I should be about 5 weeks. Will it pass like a normal period?

I would contact your doctor as they can do a blood test to check. So sorry you are going through this x

Shellywelly1973 · 29/06/2013 12:56

Sorry for what your going through. It would be like a very heavy period at 5 weeks.

I would go to your GP or EPU as they can do blood tests & make sure you recieve any medical care, should you need it.

Take care...

williaminajetfighter · 29/06/2013 13:37

Happened to me a few times. iME Drs and Epu don't give much time to very very early pregnancy loss. Not sure if they'd entertain a blood test. Instead they will probably send you home to wait it out. I would wait and try to test early morning in a few days.

lowra · 29/06/2013 13:49

Thanks for responding everyone. William sorry this has happened to you too. After tests turn negative should I expect a bleed pretty soon. No pains or cramps or anything at the moment.

I'm very sorry for your loss lowra Flowers

So sorry you are going through this. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks and it was just like a period, not sore or too heavy. Hope you have lots of support. I went on to have a successful pregnancy and I wish the same for you x

lightrain · 29/06/2013 15:42

I'm afraid that willamina's experience is the same as mine - GP will probably just send you home to wait it out.

I really hope all is well for you but agree it doesn't sound good. Rest up and be kind to yourself. Do something nice - favourite film, takeaway, chocolate, nice walk, whatever works for you, and lots if cuddles with DP. Very sorry that you're going through this.

Tested again. Very faint positive. Darker than this morning but fainter than last week. Aaaargh I need to step away from those tests :(

I just wanted to say that I had a positive and then 4 negatives before finally getting a positive again so it doesn't necc mean u are losing. I found Clearblue to be shockingly shit and we for first response which gave me another strong positive. Good luck I hope it all works out for you xxx

lowra · 29/06/2013 20:47

Thanks fluff. I'm still trying to remain hopeful. Although its first response that's giving me the very faint lines after much stronger positives last week.

Different tests have different amount of dye in them, and give differing strength of positives. Even when using the same type of test throughout, there can be big variation in the darkness.

I have had many (many) miscarriages, half of which were early at less than 6 weeks. The bleeding no matter whether early or late mostly started once the tests turned negative.

If you tested previously and today with an frer, and the lines were significantly lighter today, I would first question whether:

  1. before testing you had drunk more fluids?
  2. if you tested at a different time of day, for instance in myself, I get darker tests with second morning urine than first morning urine.
  3. are you certain the brand of test used both times is identical, and from the same packet/batch number?

If you answered 1 and 2 with no, and 3 with yes, then and only then would I think that there is a possibility of it being a chemical pregnancy/early loss.

IF it is a CP or early loss, then you will probably find that it is just like a late period when the bleeding does start.

As for contacting the doctor, they will not do anything, and if you have a negative on an frer, then you would get a negative on a doctors test, and therefore it would not even be noted as a early loss, so would be of little use seeing the doctor. Sorry.

However having said that, it is very possible since you used a different test last week, that it is not an early loss at all.

I see you have re tested and got a light rather than negative test. I think that you have to back away from the tests. If it is a CP/early loss, then you will have bleeding soon, if not, then you have every reason to continue to have hope. I would suggest waiting til midweek, and if no bleeding before then, then re test with frer and see what shows then.

Sorry you are going through this, and hope you are able to distract yourself from it all for a while.

williaminajetfighter · 30/06/2013 16:27

Lowra I had 3 mcs before 8 weeks, two before 6. The last one I remember I got a positive that just got lighter over time every day I tested. I bled about 1 1/2 weeks after period was due. Never had a full negative until a day into the bleeding due to hcg levels still up.

At 8 weeks the digital tests were still saying 1-2 weeks pregnant even though I knew I was meant to be further along. It took another few days for mc to start.

Sorry this is happening to you. It really is a waiting game. If you can get to 6 weeks and still no bleeding perhaps see if you can get an early internal scan. Good luck.

lowra · 30/06/2013 17:18

Hi, just an update. I got a full on negative today so just hoping that I will start bleeding soon. Thanks for your kind words everyone. Trying to distract myself with Glastonbury and m&s food.

I would ask your doctor to test you as you haven't actually shown any loss its just the tests so it could be issues with the tests rather than you losing.
Keeping everything crossed for u xx

fatandlumpy · 01/07/2013 05:58

Sweetie - I would just wait it out to see if you start bleeding and cramping or not. I know of a woman who didn't get a solid positive on a pee-stick until she was 8 weeks preggy.

I sincerely hope that this works out for you. (hug)

lowra · 01/07/2013 10:53

I'm bleeding and cramping now so at least I know for sure. Thanks for the advice everyone.
