Period like pains. Are they normal in the first weeks?

I am 6 weeks pregnant with dc3. I keep getting shooting pains in my back and also period like pains. I didn't get any of these with my first two. Is anyone experiencing the same?

Yes, I had them with this pregnacy but not with my first. I found it a bit unsettling as I hadnt expected it but the midwife said it was totally normal. It stopped at about 7 weeks I think.

Yes I had quite bad cramps and stabbing pains in early pregnancy. It is a bit unnerving but is apparently very common due to everything stretching.

me too. im 7 weeks now and they have mostly stopped... but it was worrying at the time.

Yes, don't worry, even if you get a bit of spotting, If it goes on more than a few days you could visit your GP but I expect you'd only receive more reassurance. All pregnancies are different and your body is going thru a lot of changes. Good luck.

I thought my period had arrived as usual due to the normal aches and pains I get but my period didn't show - tested when I was two days late and we are now 18 weeks and going strong. Think I had twinges for a good week or so.

Yes, they can be normal- but if you are at all worried, do see your GP to rule out ectopic pregnancy. With an ectopic, I think the pain is often severe and one-sided, but not always.

Yes totally normal. I'm 8+4 and still occasionally get the period type cramps. Mainly at night time. My midwife said its just everything stretching

Yes, normal. I've got them now. Had them with DC#1 but they seem worse this time round. I'd have thought there was much less stretching required this time round so quite surprised!
