Chocolate addiction

Aaargh I just can't help eating chocolate until it comes out of my ears.

I'm usually so healthy but at the moment (25 weeks) I have absolutely zero willpower. I'll go out of my way to get chocolate (cakes/ice cream/general sweet stuff!) and when I do, buy loads and then eat it all!!

A nutritionist told me what a mother eats in her pregnancy effects the baby's future disposition to food so I am feeling a bit guilty to say the least - never mind the extra months I am adding to my post baby weight loss!

And please don't say that my body must need it as nobody needs the amount of refined sugar I am wanting at the moment.

I've even tried making sure I have other healthy snacks with me but it doesn't help - I eat the health snacks AND the chocolate!

Is this normal or am I being lazy with my willpower to curb my appetite?

I am exactly the same at the moment - 15 weeks and I keep having binges. I'm okay if I'm in the house all day as we don't keep any at home, but vending machines a plenty at work and I managed a pack of 3Caramels on the way back from food shopping (I meant to just have one and save the others for today, but I just kept going Blush

This is my second and I was much better with DS, didn't put weight on other than my bump, but then put loads on afterwards as I ate toast all day to cope with the tiredness.

I thn I need to have a word with myself and calm the binging down. Once you get to 30 weeks or so, stomach space starts to get limited so this may help (straw clutching) bu I also think we need to find will power.

I'm also planning to start the 5:2 diet once I've passed 6 week check. There is a specific forum for it on here.

I get through a large bar of galaxy every day. Its disgusting how fast I eat it. Im 38+2. I keep saying to dh that this baby is going to taste like chocolate!!

parttimer79 · 26/06/2013 20:08

I'm just hungry for everything (34 weeks) but definitely eating more sweet stuff than I ever did pre-pregnancy.
Mind you my mum loved rice pudding and lemonade during pregnancy and I'm not keen on either!

I even found myself getting hot chocolate out of the vending machine the other day (I would never usually do that!!) because I couldn't find any chocolate! And I've lost any manners I might have previously had if anyone has a box of chocolates - I just help myself to 3 rather than the usual polite 1!! Ha - I'm surprised anyone still leaves them out when I'm around!

sluggers I'm really glad you posted this. I'm 24 weeks and have really started to crave general crap. Chocolate, crisps, cake (which I never related normally!)

And I think that all the sugar I'm having might be the reason I can't get off to sleep at night, despite how exhausted I actually am?!?

You are not alone! Smile

When I was pregnant with DS1 in 2004 a study suggested that mothers to be who ate lots of chocolate had more chilled out, happier babies. DS1 is certainly a sunny boy, so just tell yourself you're doing it to keep the baby happy Grin

I love that study sleepthief I ate at least two huge twix bars a dar with dd2 and at 6 months she is very chilled and has been since she was born. she was also 10lb

Ooh. A chilled out baby would be rather a bonus! reaches for (even) more chocolate Grin
