Keeping schtum!

Hi, have been consulting mumsnet since I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant (I'm now 6 1/2) and it has been a god send!
What I really wanted to do is hear from any other ladies who are really excited about their news but are too early along to really tell the world! Is anyone else finding it frustrating?! I know it's probably something really trivial compared to some of the posts on here but just wanted to see how other new mums at an early stage are feeling as well.

Looking forward to hearing from...anyone? :-)

Also - where do I fin out what all the abbreviations mean that are regularly used on here? I figured a few out but some I'm stumped with!

Hi Marie, congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm further along (25weeks) and only just starting to tell people, it's been high risk.

I actually loved keeping the secret! No one at work apart from my md knows, and I only told her last week!

Hi Marie, I'm same as you... About 6.5 weeks and I have first gp app thurs! So excited, I've taken about 10 tests since first bfp! Only me and my oh know and we're not telling anyone else until the end of July. Were getting married early August so we're going to need our parents help to disguise my not drinking so we're telling them before. I can't wait!!! I came off the pill to give us a few months before getting married (for my body to sort itself out) and I got bfp 2nd cycle! Is this your first pregnancy? I think there's a list of abbreviations somewhere on the talk section xx

Hi kasareem - first pregnancy. I fell pregnant after having one cycle after coming off the pill - certainly wasn't expecting it so soon but my partner and I are absolutely overjoyed.
We have told my partner's parents as we are fairly close to them and I had to tell my line manager as I've been having some bleeding, feeling grotty etc. Also told my sister as she has recently had two babbas herself and wanted to know what it was like for her at the beginning. Other than that, I can't wait to tell people, it's just too exciting!
How are your symptoms? I've got the sorest boobs and my appetite has gone! Xx

I am 9wks 1day, it is my dc(darling child) 1(first).

I had to tell my parents at 5 weeks as we were at theirs and I felt soo ill that I had to tell them as I thought they would think I was being rude!

I then had to tell my team manager and line manager as I was unable to go to work as i was so sick and am not good at lieing!!

Apart from that, I have told some of my friends and as I am showing a bit now and have mahoooosive boobies!! I am sure it will not be long before I am outed!!

It is an exciting time! I have my booking appointment on thursday!!

I'm feeling okay in terms of sickness - appetite has gone though and peeing like you would not believe! I'm a teacher and sometimes having to teach 100 mins in one go is painful! I have my booking appointment on 5th July but have already been to the early pregnancy unit as I had some pains and bleeding - no one ever tells you about that! Xx

Oh snap Marie! I had a two day bleed after coming off the pill and then fell pregnant! Unexpectedly quick, but very welcome! I have v sore boobs too and they are BIG (well they are usually but this is ridiculous!!). Funny taste and a bit queasy and tired but other than that I've been fine really. Other than being a but grouchy ... Tigglett, I saw you on the other thread so I know you can relate to that! What is the booking appointment? x

Lucky you guys with the non-sickness, sorry about the bleeds, I am still at the stage of being anxious every time I go to the loo(like every 10mins) in case there is any blood. I have had pains but my sister who is a MW(thank god!!) assures me it is all normal!!

The booking appointment is the first appointment with the MW, they go through all your history, medical needs, talk about the pregnancy and stuff, apparently it is really long!! I am excited though, my GP was just like, oh ok, so what do you want me to do about your positive test?!!!! Thanks, I wanted it confirmed, I went home and did another test!!

Let me help with abbreviations:

DC - darling child

DS -darling son

DD darling daughter

DH or DP - darling husband or partner.

TTC - trying to conceive.

MW - Midwife

Not sure which others you will need??

As for boobs, mine have gone through growth spurts every other saturday(I am not kidding) they feel like they are on fire, they feel they could explode and my kitten loves to rub up against them!!!!

It's all good though, the worse the symptoms, the stronger the pregnancy apparently (i remind myself of that everytime I am sick in my mouth during a meeting!!!)

Oh poor you tigglett, I'm so glad I'm not sick (yet - touch wood!) - makes it a lot easier to hide! Thanks for explaining the booking appt, I'll look forward to that. Have my appt with gp thurs, but from what I've heard I shouldn't expect much from that! Marie, I understand your pain, I work in a school (pastoral not teaching), and it sometimes takes about an hour to get from my office to the loo with constant interruptions and questions ha ha. It's weird you mention hot boobs, tigglett, now I think about it, I think that was my first symptom ... Ages before it would have showed on a test!

The thing with me is that for my sister I was the go-to person for her pregnancies because I google everything, though I now understand that there is no amount of googling that will assure you when you are pregnant yourself! It is a bit tricky when you don't see a MW until around 8 weeks as you need constant assurance (well, I do!) but I get why they don't see you until then, I guess.

Has anyone, dare I say it, thought of any names? Or am I jumping the gun a bit?! I know I sound a bit pessimistic but until that 12 week mark it's just a waiting game I suppose? Xx

And my boobs were the first thing too! Followed by this 'feeling' until I couldn't wait any longer and had to do a test!

I'm going back to work tomorrow after a couple of days off - the kids are already spotting that I have to get them out of the room quickly so I have enough time to go pee and be ready at my door for my next class! Xx

It does feel like a waiting game!! I pity my midwife, I bet she changes her number after having me for a while!!!

I Google everything and even then don't feel like reassured. I don't have anty friends with children nearby so am struggling!!

I feel like week 12 will be a magic week!!!!

Don't expect anything from your gp, tbh(to be honest) next time, I'll just book a midwife appointment I think!!

Feel your pain with peeing, I am a Social Worker and a judge does not permit loo breaks!!!!!

Ahh Marie, only 3 and a half weeks till the long break though! Bliss!! Being due in Feb is pretty fab timing too, school-wise. Completely honestly, OH and I may have had a little conversation about names (couldn't resist thinking about it). We don't want to find out what we're having so will have to come up with options! Can't wait till first scan - it'll make it really real x

I am currently 11+1 and am very excited for the big reveal. It is scan time next week so its almost time.
My parents and dhs parents know as does my sister and best friend and my boss (you are allowed time off for maternity apps but obviously they have to know you are pregnant)
My booking appointment only took 30 mins as i had read and filled out as much of my booklet as i could so she just went through it with me and explained everything.
I have been rather lucky as my symptoms haven't been that bad. Just nausea (no vomming), tiredness and slightly sore boobs. My symptoms also come and go but it doesn't matter as each pg is different and some people have no symptoms at all and still have happy healthy babies.
Your symptoms are more dependent on how your body reacts/deals with the surge of hormones you get not how pg you are so you'll prob find they come and go over the next few weeks as well, but don't panic!

The waiting will be hard but once you get to the 12 week mark you'll look back and it will seem time has flown by.

Id recommend joining the ante natal threads on here as they are a great way to chat about what is happening with people at the same stage as you. As a first timer it has been so useful and much better than searching on google (which will just terrify you)

I was trying to keep it quiet but my 3 year old announced it to my family today. never trust a child with a secret!

I'm 17+4 and still not told anyone, mainly because I'm a bit older (37) and have a fear of anything going wrong and having to "untell" people. It's really hard keeping it a secret but sometimes it's nice just to have it between myself and my husband because as soon as it's in the public domain it's almost like that is all anyone will talk about. We plan on telling people after the 20 week scan which is actually in 2 weeks time. I am trying to keep my also massive boobs under wraps and my pot belly hidden with slightly smock type tops. My guess is I am not fooling any of my colleagues. But I'm now getting to the stage where I'm really looking forward to telling people. There are two girls in the office pregnant and both are due around the same time as me and announced well over a month ago. Each to his own I guess.

Am about 9 weeks with 1st pregnancy but with the constant sickness, migraines and fainting I don't want to tell anyone because I don't feel like celebrating! Parents, boss know. Would love to be feeling more excited but at the moment it's all I can do to get out of bed and to work, and I'm not even managing that some days... Grump grump. I know it'll get better and really looking forward to feeling better, feeling positive, and being fat enough to get a seat on the tube on my commute :-)

I can definitely sympathise with being a grump! I think for me it's a mixture of tiredness, nausea and being a bit worried that I won't get to that 12 week mark! Definitely looking forward to the point where I have a bump and people might understand why I'm a bit grumpy! Ha.

Fainting sounds no fun, I keep telling myself (and my saint of a partner!) that it should only be for a few more weeks. The second trimester sounds like a breeze compared to te first and third! jojomanon hope everything is going well for you!

My sentiments exactly Marie! The 'blooming' stage still seems like a myth at the moment but I'm sure we'll get there.
