Is this SPD?

Over the last few weeks I've occasionally had a pain that feels like I've been cycling/horseriding and bruised myself badly.

Initially this started as a mild ache in the evenings 4 weeks ago when I was on holiday and had been in the swimming pool (playing with a toddler, not proper swimming) during the day so maybe linked to that?

But for the last couple of days its been getting worse and more of a constant pain. It doesn't hurt when I'm sitting/lying, but standing hurts a bit and walking is worst.

Could this be SPD? Everything I read says that thats a pain above the pubic bone, whereas this is definitely 'underneath' and to the sides?

If it is SPD any advice about what I can do to improve it would be appreciated. I have my own toddler and work with them, so need to lift them and push a buggy etc, so resting/time off is not really an option.

That's how mine started.

Speak to your midwife to get a referral to an obstetric . It's better to seek treatment as soon as possible.

Watching with interest as I have something similar as well, although it only started a couple of days ago and don't hurt as such, just feels like it shouldn't, although is getting slightly worse

Mine is in my pubic bone. Down the sides underneath, into my inner upper thigh. Imagine sitting on your bike seat and the pain is everywhere around that area except for me its not in my bottom.

It's like a constant bruising pain and with movement it becomes a hot poker pain sharp pain.

The idea of just sitting in a saddle like this hurts let alone actually riding.

My SPD started with a feeling that I had been kicked between the legs really hard and felt bruised.

Speak to your midwife for advice. My physio told me its bit something you can walk off and don't aggravate it. If something hurts stop doing it.

PenelopeLane · 24/06/2013 10:57

Hmmm I will book a physio in that case (don't have another MW appointment for 3 weeks!) but that description of it feeling like bruising seems to capture it completely. How far along were you other ladies when it started and when it got bad? I'm 25 weeks and the bruised feeling appeared about a week ago.

omg I am so please I found this thread I am 22 weeks today and had the same thing exactly started about a week ago I saw my gp and he was puzzled but thinking now I need to speak to my midwife I thought it was something that only I was going through am so glad that I am not alone!!!!!

leeloo1 · 24/06/2013 11:55

Thanks for the replies. I have a midwife appt on Weds, so I'll talk to her about it then and hopefully get some advice on how to deal with it.

Darn it, I was really hoping it wouldn't be spd as I can't afford to be ill and this really hurts. :(

btw I'm 28.5 weeks if that helps anyone.

I think mine started towards the end of the second trimester. I am 39+5 now and it has only really got worse in the last few weeks as baby has moved lower. It was a bit uncomfortable but quite manageable up until then. I am still keeping mobile now but it's quite painful at times.
