Is it any good? Does it taste like the real stuff? Any recommendations for a nice dry sav blanc?

tried lots in pregnancy. didnt like any of themSad stuck to soda water/shloer in the end

Futterby · 24/06/2013 02:12

It's okay... Nothing like the real thing. A bit disappointing.

Rockchick1984 · 24/06/2013 07:48

Never liked it - alcohol free Koppaberg cider is lovely, but never found a wine that was worth drinking. After the first trimester I would occasionally have a small glass of a really lovely wine - I figured if I was out for a meal I could spend 2-3 times the price I normally would as I was only having one glass Grin

Aetae · 24/06/2013 07:53

I don't see the point, personally. I don't need to drink "alcohol" at home and out it's impossible to find non-alcoholic things. I need to mainline water at the moment anyway to help with my bloating Sad.

I discovered on the weekend that fever tree naturally light ginger beer is vair naice though!

HotSoupDumpling · 24/06/2013 08:25

Love Fever Tree stuff!

It's pretty disgusting if you're normally into wine. I'm drinking a lot of it though - diluted with fever tree tonic water and ice. It's an expensive way to drink basically a sour Schloer, but I find real Schloer too sweet for my pregnancy taste buds.

HMT13 · 24/06/2013 08:32

I'm missing red wine so much. I've been on fentiman's ginger beer mostly if we go out. Haven't found a decent wine. Although I was to try this AF cider a few have mentioned!

Cavort · 24/06/2013 10:44

Another one here who loves wine and can't find a decent alcohol-free one. Sad None I have tried are even vaguely convincing. Sad Sad

My alcohol substitute needs have been met by Bavaria 0% beer and Koppaberg alcohol-free which are both very palatable. Becks Blue and Cobra 0% are disgusting IMO.

jessw25 · 24/06/2013 11:17

Trust me, they're all horrible so don't waste your money! I spent loads trying them all and then every flavour of Schloer and concluded that there is no decent tasting wine substitute. Sorry :-(

Namechangingnorma · 24/06/2013 15:15

They really aren't all awful, just think they need to be bought from a specialist, the supermarket ones are all rubbish, try www.alcoholfree.co.uk - there are a few good ones, the Ariel brand is good, particularly the sparkling chardonnay

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 24/06/2013 15:21

I haven't found a good alcohol-free beer or wine, although the Kopparberg fruity one, rather than the pear one, is quite nice. I'm happy to have one glass of "real" wine or beer, though, from time to time.

parttimer79 · 24/06/2013 15:33

dry sav blanc...in your dreams, sorry Grin.
All the alcohol free wine I tasted was ridiculously sweet. A particularly memorable one was like sherbet.
I've had a couple of alcohol free beers which were better, as another poster said Bavaria was pretty good.
And I've had a half glass of some really good wine/bubbly on a couple of special occasions but otherwise we are building up our cellar for when I finish breastfeeding!

pumpkinsweetie · 24/06/2013 15:46

They are all pointless & quite frankly a waste of money. I'm 12wks & i crave the taste of wine & have tried a good few of these 0% 'wines' and none of them taste of wineConfused
The worst one of the lot i bought this weekend, Sorelle savion blanc something or other-anyway i had my popcorn & dvd at the ready and expected for £3.49 for it to taste of something......no it fecking didn't taste anything like wine let alone grapes, infact it tasted like fizzy water with a hint of slime, might aswell had have bought a bottle of 99p fizzy water & a bloody lime!!!

Shloer, the white grape one is a nice drink, but again doesn't remotely taste like wine.

With dd2, many years ago Tesco Extra sold a peach fizzy thing that was no alcho in the alcho department, was delish but unfortunetly they don't stock it anymore, tasted rather like peach lambrini.

Might try a spiced cordial as that is rather similar to mulled wine but unsure whether they sell that anymore either

vkinski · 24/06/2013 16:02

I think they are a waste of money - if you are a wine drinker outwith pregnancy, then I'm afraid your taste buds just won't be tricked! After trying a few of them, I'm just sticking to water and ice and thinking about that day in the not to distant future when I can enjoy a lovely big glass of Shiraz! Wink

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 24/06/2013 19:59

Thanks everyone! You have saved me lots of money. Think I will stick to alcohol free beer (quite like Bavaria) or soda water and the odd glass of champagne .

I quite fancy trying alcohol free wheat beer. Maybe another thread there...

YY to alc free beer. I quite like Becks blue and Erdinger.

Non alc wine is torture [yuck]

mrsyattering · 24/06/2013 20:26

YY to alc free beer, Becks is the best one I've tasted

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 25/06/2013 14:35

Ooh, the Erdinger wheat beer one is good, I'd forgotten about that. It does taste like beer.
