Car seat - does it need to be part of your 'travel system'. Also Isofix?!

I'm trying to work out whether I need to buy a car seat that fits on my pram. I'm going for the silver cross wayfarer which has a £130 car seat that fits on it. But I'm not sure how often I'll actually use it? Does anyone else have any experience of this? Or should I just buy a random (but good) car seat that's just for the car?
Also undecided about getting an isofix base for the car - so if anyone can advise on this also I would appreciate it. Thanks.

My ds hated the car seat for about 5 months, regardless of whether it was in the car or not, so we didn't use ours on the base at all, but then that's just one experience.

Again, isofix base probably good if taking in and out a lot, but not essential. If you do get one, check it's compatible with you particular car first.

How often will you be in the car? I had a car seat as part of travel system and wouldn't have been without it. We were in the car at least every other day, and it meant not having to disturb DD every time we needed to get in/out of the car. Ditto isofix. Not essential, but saves a lot of faff.

I would say I would be in the car 1-2 times a week but then we live away from family so tend to travel to them about once a month, which is about 90 miles. That's why i'm think i'll go for the isofix.

Isofix isn't necessarily safer, it's just easier to get the seat in and out. So more likely to be properly installed than if your always redoing the seatbelt.

Which car seat is it? Often the rrp is much higher than the best price if you shop around. Kiddicare is a good place to check first.

I used my travel system with the car seat a lot but I live in the middle of nowhere so have to drive every day.

Is the car seat the Ventura one? If so trial it in ur car as the rear seat belts don't always stretch around it as I found out in my old focus.

I have the silver cross 3d so will prob not use the car seat on it as it has the carrycot liner but I have bought isofix base as I have a mobility prob and its just easier than faffing with the belt.

I bought the car seat as will be in and out to school every day, then I can just put on the pushchair vase rather than waking baby up or carrying the heavy car seat, I didn't go for the isofix base as I have a ford galaxy and it can only go in the middle seat which would be a pain in the middle of two other car seats.

We use the car seat on the travel system most days, and find the isofix really helpful, but it really depends on how you use your car. I'm doing daily drop off and pick ups for nursery with ds1 and want to limit disturbing ds2 (especially if a miracle curs and he falls asleep!) Ultimately it allows a greater degree of flexibility to have the car seat attaching onto travel system but not essential, isofix makes it a very quick click into the car but if you're not taking the carseat out much then less of a benefit.

It's called simplicity I think, it's a new one. Realistically I'm only going to be using it twice a week. plus a weekend trip once a month. Can anyone recommend a good car seat under £100?

I paid £90 for my maxi cosi cabriofix, I had the silver cross one last time but had to change when it didn't fit my new car. Then I swapped to a britax one that could go either way which may make more sense for you of you're not going to use that much as it will last.

Whenever possible I would go for isofix - it is safer than just a seatbelt and much easier.

Whether you need one that forms part of the 'travel system' really does depend on how much/what way you'll be using both parts - it doesn't sound like you'll be using the carseat that much, so I wouldn't spend much more on getting one that goes on the pram.

Definitely get ISOFIX. An extraordinary number of seats are incorrectly fitted and ISOFIX makes it easy to install correctly every time.

I didn't use a car seat as part of a travel system. Babies should not be scruntched up due to their respiratory system still developing. They should be flat, so I had a pram that allowed my baby to lay flat.

isofix makes it 100 times easier to get the baby in and out as the seat belt isn't in the way.

I can't be doing with lifting heavy thing so we rarely used it on the wheels. but the maxi cosi is a good car seat and therefore it was good to have the option.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna get a decent random car seat with isofix. If I go out shopping etc ill want the baby in the pram like u say, lying flat.
