Air wrap cot bumper on a small crib?

Hi. We bought our crib (Troll bedside co-sleeper crib) and bought an air wrap cot bumper. The mesh "breathable one". We got a 4 sided one. It's so long though we've had to double it up to fit it on. Doesn't this defeat the point of it being "breathable"? DH has fitted it to the instructions but its just a much smaller crib than the cots we've seen it demoed on.

Should we do away with it until we have a proper cot or are they ok folded into double? (They're folded over a little bit on the pics)

Can you exchange it for a two side one? Or if you are handy with a sewing machine, why not cut it to size then sew it back together, or use velvro, when/if you move baby to a bigger cot.

I use one on my DS cot bed and its great, especially to stop his toys falling out (he's 20 months). We used a moses basket so didnt use the wrap until DS went into his cot at around 4 months so cant really answer your question properly.
